Hi K.,
The best thing to put on your kids before they go in the cold and right after they come back in, that I was referred to by Dr's and my old daycare lady is the Eucerin cream (not lotion). You can get it at Target, Walmart, Walgreens, basically anywhere. Vaseline is a dryant. It is making her cheeks worse. As far as germs, maybe you can volunteer at your church once a week to disinfect the toys your child may play with or if your gym is the YMCA, you could also volunteer there too for the same thing. Lysol or Clorox has a new product thats safe for babies that disinfects toys, surfaces, etc. that kids can touch and put in there mouths. I have 4 kids and I went the last 3 months with the same and I bleached everything down and washed their bedding in hot water with bleach or color safe bleach and wiped down anywhere the kids touch, including the doorknobs, any handles, refrigerator handle, microwave handle, railings, dishwasher handle, telephones, and got all new toothbrushes. They shouldn't use the same one anyway after a cold. I also purchased a Floppy Seat (shopping seat cover) that covers the whole sitting area in a shopping cart, it also goes on public high chairs and even public baby swings. I got mine yesterday at Babies R Us in Roseville on clearance for $29.98, usually $39.99. Here is the link to look at it:
