I think white is pretty generic. I would use it for a boy, in fact my sons have white captains beds from Ikea.
Is white an appropriate color for a boy's crib? Since I want to buy a convertible crib, I am just worried that the teenage boy will be angry that he has white furniture. I've asked my husband, because apparently he used to be a teenaged boy, but he has no real insight... of course.

My mom had 3 boys, 2 girls. We all used a white crib.
My son's crib was white. Currently he is seven and his twin bed is white (it has black drawers underneath it). His dresser and bookshelves are white and I expect he will have those well into his teen years. White is classic and modern both. Also gender neutral.
Our house is furnished in modern/mid century with assorted ethnic pieces. No way am I doing my son's room in country/rustic style wood tones.
Don't think it matters. Just pair it w/ cute boy bedding and you're good to go. Oh, but if you haven't bought it already, then I'd probably choose a wood tone, which I like for a girl or a boy. Again, it's all about the bedding as far as making it masculine or feminine :)
We had a light colored oak stain wood crib and changing table for our son.
Babies certain do not care what color anything is.
Once he was old enough to use a bed he got my old bedroom set - which is off white.
It's a squarish canopy bed with a trundle - which makes a great storage place.
We use to put a bed spread over the top of the canopy and it made a really cool fort.
We LOVED reading stories in there with flash lights.
He's 14 now and still using it and as long as the mattress is comfortable he does not care what color it is.
It's always looked great with blue sheets and blankets.
If it's for a boy I would go with a wood tone. Something to think about you may have more children, it may or may not remain the baby boys need, it may eventually end up in a guest room after baby number 2 or 3 lol
White wouldn't be my choice for a boy, but my 2-month-old son is in the same white crib that his two older sisters used. it IS a convertible crib, but we won't use it past toddler bed.
I like white. We went with a chestnut for our son because when we saw the dark wood it looked feminine (had a purplish tone). I think you can butch up later.
The only color that isn't appropriate for a boy is pink.
So yes, white is fine.
By the way, there is no way on this earth that you'll have the same bed for your son when he is a teenager. He will be far too big for it. You'll see.
Get the white crib. Later you will get a double bed for him because he will hang off of the twin.
Dawn
Is it wood painted white? It can be sanded and re-stained or painted as your son gets older.
Despite best intentions, convertible cribs rarely get used from birth to 18. Save some money and get a standard crib now, then a regular bed later.
I wouldn't do white if you have a choice. My sons was wood.
I don't think the color matters. And I haven't read the other posts, but I wouldn't expect that his convertible crib is going to last until he's 18. It will last until he's probably 3 or maybe 4 depending on how big of a kid he is, but then he'll be way too big for it. I'd go for wood after he outgrows the crib/toddler bed, and if you have room for a full size bed rather than a twin I'd go that route.
I don't think it is a silly question. I would not use white unless it was just for the crib. There are plenty of baby boy looks that can look great with a white crib!
There are convertible cribs that turn into a full sized bed - I assume that is what you have - so in that case I would not use white. I don't think a teenage boy would be fond of a white bed. It seemed like a lot of the responses assumed your convertible turned into a twin.
