My five week old has been sleeping for over four hours and it has been five hours since she had a bottle. She is healthy and consumes the recommended amount of formula each day. SHOULD I WAKE HER TO EAT? It is almost 11:00 p.m.?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you ! I am continuing to watch her and she looks so peaceful ! Crossing my fingers that if she does wake, she will go right back to sleep and not want to party on her playmat.

No, I would let her sleep. I was the same way when my daughter started sleeping through the night. The best advice I ever took was to not watch the clock and timing everything and I have a happy healthy baby. Get some rest.

NEVER wake a sleeping baby!!! By six weeks both my girls slept 11 hours straight till they fed next........sleep is more important for their development right now.

Please read about formula-it may be that that is making her sleep in this way, her body trying to digest the non food in formula. Check Eat right 4Your Blood type to see what she can& should eat. Nurse her would be best, not too late.
Best, k

The old rule, "never wake a sleeping baby" doesn't apply to newborns. My ped said to not allow a newborn sleep more than 4-5 hours without feeding during the night.

********
But, if you feel she's okay...then let her sleep. : )

At 5 days old my daughter started sleeping 6 hours through the night. The first night I woke up, looked at the time and freaked. I tried to wake her, but to no avail. I called the lactation consultant at the hospital the next day and she said that when my daughter was hungry, she’d let me know, and not to wake her. My daughter was awake a lot during the day, and nursed quite a bit, so as long as she had several wet/poopy diapers, and gaining weight, she was doing fine. Enjoy the sleep! Now at 5 years old, my daughter is still a good sleeper.

if you're really worried about her eating, at that age, it's possible to pick them up, feed them, and put them back to bed without waking them up. We did it with our daughter all the time at night when she was a baby.

no.

But every 3 weeks is a "growth-spurt" in a baby (then at 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and so forth)... so 6 weeks is coming up for her... and then she might wake more then to feed. So yes, feed on demand, they need the increased intake and nutrition, 24/7.

Let her sleep. Feed when she wakes up. No matter what time it is.

My daughter started sleeping 8 hours per night at 5 weeks old. I let her do it! Some kids just sleep well from the beginning. Others, like my son, do not. I once called the pediatricians office because my daughter (as an infant) had been sleeping for 3 hours. This was during the day and completely out of character. They told me to let her sleep! I realize this was posted last night and you've already done what you were going to do, but in the future, my suggestion would be to let baby sleep. There is nothing wrong with a healthy newborn sleeping for longer periods of time and they won't starve....you'll just have to feed more during the waking hours. Good luck! Hope you got some rest last night.

NO. My I had that same concern with my good sleeper, and my doctor told me that after the first 10 days of life babies no longer need night feedings, they do it because we train them to. So even would mine would wake at night I would wait 5 minutes to see if they really needed something, and they always went back to sleep on their own. Because of this I had both my boys sleeping from 8 until 5 or 6 from 1 month old. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the fact that you have a great sleeper!
