Sleeping in Her Crib!

My guess is that your baby loves you so much she doesn't want to be without you. You can help her by swaddling her in a receiving blanket so she feels like she is close to something. I know my son slept in his bassinet for almost 6 months and I wonder why you think your baby is too big for the bassinet. They don't move around too much so it should be a great place for her. It's hard being a new mom and everything works out in the end. I remember the first month or two I was thinking, why did I have a baby? Am I nuts? But trust me, you will get through this. It's in our nature as moms to find a solution and take care of that precious life. Hang in there mom! She'll sleep for you. Maybe she could sleep in a swing or bouncy chair, it almost doesn't matter where they sleep at that age as long as they have undisturbed sleep. i got one of those sleep positioners for both my sons, and they slept great. i had the same problem at first. babies move a lot in their sleep, and it wakes them up. that might be a problem. maybe you should give her a pacifier? my younger one falls asleep within minutes after i give him one. that or you might just have to let her cry for a minute, and i know that sucks. i had to with my older one. just go back in, pat her gently and watch her for a few minutes. good luck!

Your 3-week-old is too big for a bassinet?? Wow! Both of my kids could've slept in a bassinet until they were 6 months...but then I have midget kids, lol.

Anyway, a newborn's system is so out of whack--as is a new mommy's--that it takes time to get everyone into a good routine. A baby is used to being all curled up & warm in your belly, not spread out in a big open space like a crib. Some babies adjust to that change quickly, others take more time.

At 3 weeks I wouldn't worry too much about where she's sleeping. I know a girl who is a staunch believer in strict schedules for babies, but she also says that for the first 6 weeks you should let them sleep anywhere that allows you both to rest--and that includes your bed. Both of my kids slept in my bed for some period of time as babies/toddlers and both of them now sleep in their own beds.

I recommend the book No Cry Sleep Solution. It describes many techniques for getting a baby to sleep on her own with minimal crying. Give yourself a break and trust that together you all will develop a routine that works for both of you. And remember that it doesn't happen overnight. : )

I was having this problem with my son for a while, too. I read that some kids respond to the temperature difference. They said to make sure the child is wrapped really well in whatever their favorite blanket was (so the smell was always the same, too) then put them down. The blanket should hold the heat of your body and change gradually enough to not wake them as it cools. It worked sometimes for my son, but not always.
