Unfortunately I can't recommend someone specific, but I would like to give you a warning- we went to the Family Practice Center for West Suburban Hospital for several years from the time my son was born until he was about 8. During that time, we had ok care, but I cannot recommend the office for the following reasons:
1)Things changed a lot after they were bought by Resurrection. Suddenly records were kept off-site and there were MANY MANY issues with getting access to my own medical records and mistakes in billing that *I* had to clear up with the insurance company. The office staff were very poorly informed about the billing- telling me one thing, and then when I called the out of state billing company, they would tell me something totally different. A lot of passing the buck around.
2) The actual office has moved to a much smaller space within West Sub hospital and in the last two years we went there, the staff just seemed very overworked and irritated, compared to earlier years when my son was a baby.I just felt that people were less helpful and didn't have time to really address any issues. It was not pleasant to go there or have to deal with the staff at all, which is sad, because it was different when my son was a baby.
3)We had a great Primary Care physician. But I swear to you, in the entire time we went there for care, I think we only ever saw the man twice! Seriously, he was NEVER available for an appointment.
We ALWAYS had to see a new intern who, while nice, was TOTALLY unfamiliar with our family, medical needs, records, etc. and while I realize that young doctors need to learn and train, it was just really a pain to have to go through the same things over and over - just to get an allergy prescription renewed, because they would only prescribe it for 3 months at a time, or situations like that.
Also, I found that the staff there was very uninformed about what insurance would cover or not cover, what costs on perscriptions were, if there was a generic, etc.
Then we moved and now to go to the Family Practice in LaGrange Hospital. The difference is like night and day!
Seriously, I did not realize how POOR the quality of my care at West Sub was until I went somewhere else and got into a really good office.
Our primary physician has seen me for every appointment and has been available twice for last minute, same day appointments. This NEVER happened at West Sub.
Also, he and the doc who sees my son for his allergies are both totally up to date on what each is doing every time we come in. They are using a computerized system that (for whatever reason) seems to work much better than the one at the old office.
Because I always get to see my primary, he is totally on top of my meds, my diet and exercise regime (I have lost 12 pounds since starting with the new office!) and honestly, when I first came there, he was really appalled to find out that I had gone to the same office for almost 8 years and they had done nothing to get me onto a regular preventative regime (I am pre-diabetic, but hopefully now will avert the condition entirely).
We have been asked to see a different doctor just once, my decision, for a camp physical, just because we needed to get it done ASAP.
Both doctors that we see have been very sensitive to my financial concerns about perscriptions, always finding a generic for me, and have been very well informed about insurance costs etc.
When I did have a question they could not answer, they did not just say " Well, you'll need to call your provider and work that out with them" as I was told at West Sub. Instead they had someone from their office staff find out and call me back later that same day with the info.
Seriously, I am not trying to be a witch here. But now that I have seen how much better care can be, I would never again settle for what I got at West Suburban Hospital. So good luck- I would say try and find a pediatrician associated with someplace else if it was me!
