Spotting Before period....(TMI Maybe)

So I'm frustrated and just wondering if anyone else has had similar cycles. I have NEVER spotted except the day of starting my period, and even then it was more of just light period. Here we are and I finally have agreed to try for a third with my husband and the last 3 months when I am supposed to have started my period I have started this really light spotting for like 5 days and then 5 days later I start my normal cycle.

This is so frustrating the first couple months I tested thinking I was late and the spotting was possible implantation bleeding. Now I don't know what to think at all? Granted before conceiving with my first son, my cycles were horribly irregular they'd pretty much come every few months sometimes every six months, but I was fine with that since we weren't trying to have a baby. After having my 1st I had 3 cycles after weaning my son, and then got pregnant with my 2nd (and they were my usual cycles no spotting).

My cycles with my 2nd, returned at 10 months just like my first, and I was totally done nursing him by 15 months and had very 'normal' cycles for me. Just these last 2.5 months I have had this weird spotting, could it be that my hormones are still adjusting from nursing and being pregnant for the last 3.5 yrs?

I really don't understand the spotting for 5 days, then starting, I can't stand wearing liners/pads for 10 days and then some. Any thoughts? I have my annual scheduled next month so plan on addressing it then. I don't think its too important at this point just more of an inconvenience, and pretty annoying especially when I'd like to hurry up and just get my period started and over with!

What can I do next?

for about the last almost year I have had this too. We are done having kids. My husband got the V about 4 years ago after our 2nd was born. For me, this last time was the worst. I actually thought I had started my period, but I didn't. It started about 5 days before my period actually came. I also have cramping with mine too. I really don't understand it. I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone and I am also dealing with this!

i have had this for the last 1 to 2 yrs. i thought it was perimenopausal. i know it's a symptom of it. i also will start about 3-4 days early one month or 3-4 days late the next. but it started with the spotting. it's horribly annoying because i never know when i'm going to start.

It can be normal to spot before starting one's period, but it can indicate a deficiency of progesterone (a very necessary hormone for building and maintaining the uterine lining to support a pregnancy). Your history sounds like you may have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). Please see a Dr. before you conceive to make sure you have optimal chances at a healthy pregnancy. In the mean time please take those prenatal vitamins religiously and try to acheive or maintain a healthy weight and diet. Midwife Mom of 3
