my son is 2 1/2 (at 41 lbs and coming past my waist already), he is pretty advanced in most other areas as well, so it's sometimes a challenge keeping up with him. we have done park after park (which he loves), deanna rose, walking the malls...does anyone have any other ideas for cheap entertainment, preferably outside? my husband works two jobs so it is often just me and the baby, and with spring here finally i would love to spread our wings a bit. any suggestions would be so helpful! thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I know you said you've gone to parks, but have you gone to Antioch Park or Loose Park? Both places are great for walking, and you can feed ducks at both. Loose Park has a beautiful garden in addition to the rose garden and fountains.

There's also the fountains at Crown Center, there's lots of stuff to do there as well. They are putting on an Oz exhibit right now, which is free. Then there's also Kaleidoscope where you can do free art projects. The Crayola store is also lots of fun.

Most libraries have some sort of story times too, which can be good for a break from the heat.

Lastly, www.KCKidsFun.com is a great resource for lots of fun stuff to do in the area with your kids.

Hope this helps!

You sound like a very fun mommy and I've had experience with the go, go, go kid personality which I tried to strike a balance by taking him to a few places where he has to learn to "chill out" too; like the public library. We check out books for free then go outside, even in our own yard, spread out a blanket with a picnic lunch and I read to him. Soon it'll be even warmer weather and I've taken my kids to Crowne Center and they have an outdoor water area where the water shoots up from these holes and its a great, free kid place to check out. Be sure to bring your own lawn chair, towels and sunscreen. It might even be fun to enroll him in a gymnastics class where he can do lots of activities in a safe, fun environment too. It's challenging to get outside the box sometimes but Mamasource Moms always have great ideas and/or even look on the internet for sites around Kansas City that you could check out for little or no money.

The Overland Park Arboretum (175th-ish and Antioch) and Ernie Miller Nature Park (Hwy 7/135th st) have lots of trails. My 3 year old wears himself (and me) out on those.

At Ernie Miller they have a few aquariums and play stations inside too that provide a nice break to the walking.
