STILL Afraid of Easter Bunny

My son just turned 5 two weeks ago and he is STILL afraid to go near the person dressed as the Easter Bunny. He just this last Christmas was comfortable around Santa. I never force him to do anything he is not comfortable with. I respect his feeling but I see all the kids excited to see the giant Easter Bunny and he wont go near it. What is the oldest kid you know of that didn't want to go near the Easter Bunny?

No, he does't go running and screaming. He just keeps his distance and says no when I ask if we can meet the Easter Bunny.

Thanks everyone! My son is a cautious and often wise beyond his years chid.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

He knows that it's just a person in a costume. He even drew a picture of the Easter Bunny with a person inside. He doesn't like Chuck E Cheese or Clowns either.

My 5 1/2 year old daughter is absolutely terrified of the Easter Bunny, Santa, and anythng else that is in a costume. She has yet to sit on Santa's lap, and I'm starting to think she never will.

I don't know if you can still consider him a kid ( even though he still acts like one ;) ) but it would be my husband. Even at 41 he is creeped out by the Easter bunny, always has been. He is also creeped out by Chuck E. Cheese.

Those giant easter bunny costumes ARE creepy. Some of them have the scariest eyes ever. My son didn't want anything to do with them when he was 3 and personally I think he is right. Is there not something odd about an adult dressed up in a giant furry white outfit approaching little children and giving them plastic eggs?

LOL I am almost 45 and I STILL find the Easter Bunny creepy! Not the idea of him, but actual adults dressed up in whiskers and ears.
Santa isn't as scary because he's a man, a regular size man.
But bunnies are supposed to be small, kids know this, not huge and freaky and talking to you and walking on two legs.
The one Easter Bunny my kids were exposed to was the one at our local egg hunt. My kids took one look and said, um, no thanks.

I just wouldn't force him. Even as an adult I shy away from dressed up people. They are creepy.

I'm not a fan of people in animal costumes. Kinda creepy for me. Ditto clowns.

I once had a job at Dominos and had to dress as the "Noid" back in the day. It was terrible. Kids love to pull off those heinous oversize gloves. I feel bad for those people who wear costumes for their work... but not bad enough to want to approach them!

I also think the Easter bunny is creepy....or any animal costume like that. I am ok around them....just dont understand why anyone would want to make contact with one. That being said...my son was seriously scared of them...until at about 7 he saw one take his amimal head off. Once he realized it was simply a costume all was ok.

It's a creepy concept.
And those bunny costume faces scare me--I'm 49!
No big deal.
Just because the sterotype is a kid rushing to see EB--many are weirded out by it.
Same with Santa.

The Easter Bunny is pretty creepy looking. I don't think it's a big deal to be afraid of it, even at age 5. I don't even bother taking my kids to see it.

My son is also 5 and wants nothing to do with the easter bunny, santa, team mascots, the fairy princess or any costume character - even if knows they are just costumes. I, too, wish he could be excited for one of these childhood visits but alas, I don't see it happening.

I don't blame him--those lifeless non-moving eyes of the EB are kinda freaky--and his mouth agape...yeah, my kids don't like him up close either.

My son was like that when he was 5.
He is 6 now... and even with the Easter Bunny at the mall... he does not want to go near it.
But he's okay with the Santa at the mall.

At that age, he doesn't have reality and make-believe sorted out yet. So you can help him. "It's OK. You don't have to go near him. That Easter Bunny is a person in a bunny costume. I wonder what he looks like, really, without the rabbit head?"

I'm 36 and terrified of the Easter Bunny. I remember looking through the screen/mouth and seeing a set of eyes looking back at me. From that moment on, I was convinced that EB ate children. I still find the mall bunny to be creepy as hell. No thanks!

Christmas my son was not a fan of Santa the first time we went to see him. The second time he was okay. It was like he had to get used to him. (he is 4)

I did not try to see the Easter Bunny with the kids this year. We were too busy, and I forgot until it is now too late.

well, my daughter is just starting to get use to Santa. She knows him and that he's good. Just kinda stand off-ish. Don't worry--he'll out grow it. At least...I assum he will! As long as he don't go crazy and try to run when he sees the Easter Bunny..that'd be interesting.
If he don't want to be near the bunny and look at a distance, then that's fine.
