Hi Moms! I am looking to buy a flat iron/straightener. Does anyone have recommendations? I am especially interested in ones that can be purchased at Target, Walmart, CVS, Walgreens for under $50. Please include what you like and don't like. Thank you!

You can get dirt cheap, brand new CHI's on Craigslist!!! I got a cute pink one from a lady in the area, for $45 or 50! Good luck! :-)

Ok, I'm going to also say go with a CHI. I have had mine for almost 5 years and it is still going strong. I love it!!! I know its more then $50 but it is so worth it and won't even compare to any of the cheaper ones. Please consider putting back a few more $$ for the CHI!

I bought a Revlon flat iron about 3 years ago for around $30 at CVS and have always been happy with it. I have really curly hair too.

I know you said under $50.....BUT........ YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

You can buy 1 good Chi that will last 2+ years around $100 if you shop wisely or buy a new cheapee at less than $50 1-3 times a year ($150)

My daughter uses a Chi. We actually got a 2nd one at Christmas because Penney's had a deal that was too good to pass up.

You can get a Chi under $100 if you watch ads. Penney's often has salon deals. I got daughter's last Chi there under $100. Penney's also has a lot of Chi products on sale at times for buy one get one free. This is when I stock up on the iron guard. Bed Bath and Beyond routinely have 20% coupons.

If you check out options, the Chi will last a long time and be a great iron and less than $100 if you shop wisely.

I know you wanted one under $50 but I have got to recommend the Chi. I know you can find them at Target and they cost a little more. The first one I had lasted for years until I finally wore it out. I was putting off spending the money on another one and bought two lower priced ones that I pretty much wasted my money on. I just got my second Chi for Christmas and I love it.

The ones at those stores have never worked for me and they seem to go out on me really quick! I made my husband purchase a chi. I only paid $69 plus free shipping! My SIL gave me the website and told me they were ligit, so I did it and the place has so many to choose from! Plus you get a 2 year waranty, if you want the web address just let me know (anyone). Everywhere else I found a chi was like almost $100 if not more! Chi is the best by far, my friend also suggest the solora or something like that! You wont find a great straightener for under $50 at one of those stores, oh and the shipping is at your house in about 5 days not to long!

There is a less expensive version of the CHI, called FHI, and I've had mine for 5+ years. It works as well as CHI.

Also if you know anyone working in a salon, they typically get 50% off of retail. So if the CHI's they sell for $150, can be purchased by an employee, give them the cash, and pay $75.

If you decide to get a CHI, go to ebay!! I've seen some go for $50 if you watch it closely at the end of bidding.

Hi. I have bought two flat irons from retail places like the ones you listed and they did not work for me. I have kind of thick wavy hair and even when I would flatten my hair in sections, those kinds of irons simply are not hot enough to do much to my hair. I have been using a straightener by Paul Mitchell for two years now and really like it. It's temp. goes up to 400 degrees and you can control how hot you want it. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have an automatic shut-off button :)
