I'm Looking to Purchase a Good Hair Straightener, Any Suggestions?

I'm looking to purchase a new hair straightener, but want one that is worth the price! They can be quite expensive, and I don't mind if it is worth it. I have "frizzy" hair and the older I get the frizzier it seems to get. I would just like to once in awhile make it look softer and straighter with a straightener. If anyone has one that they love, please let me know what kind. Thank you!

What can I do next?

Hi,
I have the same kind of hair. I used to spend lots of money, but found that HOT TOOLS flat iron which is about $80 or more at the mall at www.folica.com for less than $18. Same one. Exactly. Had a hairdresser tell me that they sell knock offs, but no, it is the exact same as the one I had from the mall. Young kids also know to use a protectant product. Using the right products makes a difference in finish. I like the Fx line, but any of them really work.
Good luck.

The best I have found is a CHI flat iron. Get some kind of spray that has a thermal protectant in it.. Aquage and Kenra have really nice ones, and finish with a fine mist shine spray. In aquage the beyond body thermal protectant for before flat iron work and the beyond shine as a finisher is great. As a licensed cosmetologist I use these often not only on myself but on my clients. Hope this helps!

You have to buy the Chi, espeically if you don't mind spending a few extra bucks. It is SO worth it. You will not regret it and you won't have to replace it because it's cheaply made or breaks. I have had the same one (Chi) for almost three years now and I LOVE it. Enjoy!!

I prefer using a very large round curling iron over a flat iron. Flat irons, do just that, make your hair flat....and to me a nice straight smooth look should have a bit of flip to the end. I currently use the Infiniti by Conair. It heats up to 395 degrees is ready in a minute. It has a ceramic coating and works great. It cost me about $40. You should also use a smoothing shampoo. Using both helps to create a smoother look. I ended up getting my hair professionally chemically straightened and I loved the outcome.

I HIGHLY recommend the Chi. It was my best investment ever. It cost between $80-$100 but it is totally worth it. I've had mine for about 4 years now and I've never had a problem. All my friends have them now too. I know you can buy them at JC Penney salons.

Conair makes good products. I have tried the flat iron and the curling irons and I found that the curling irons actually do a better job at straightening. I too have frizzy/curly hair and use an instant heat curling iron to straighten my hair.

Hi J.-

The CHI is one of the best straighteners on the market, but it is expensive ($150-$200). I just bought a GVP from Sally's and it is the generic version of the CHI, and it is only $60-$70. They perform exactly the same!

Good Luck!

The CHI hair straightener is awesome. It is pricey, around $150, but it works excellent. I have naturally curly hair and can make my hair bone straight and very smooth and shiny. It is definately worth the price. I am a hair stylist and started using one in the salon when we saw them demonstrated at a hair show we attended. I loved the results it gave so much that i bought one for me to use at home. I highly recommend it.

GHD is newer and better than the CHI. Check with a local salon.

well J., you may want to look for one with solid ceramic blades that is slitly rounded on the outside it is less damiging to hair and more virsitil. many are just ceramic coated watch out for these they are not worth the money and they were down to the the metel wich pulls on the hair and may make the frizz worse in the long run. also don't underestimat a good perfetional product to help protuct you hair from the heat Paul Mich. and Joico are realy good believe me you hair will thank you. i use PM supper sinny serium and know it works very well in many hair types it isn.t a heat protectant but it is wonderful it is light enough to use every day, it feeds your hair most. while calming the frizz. i hope this was a help, yours truly Dace a schooled mom

You gotta get the CHI. It's the best. I have naturally curly and frizzy hair and have tried a ton of straighteners and the only one that works is the CHI. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. I got mine at JCPenny salon on sale. You'll be so happy with it and it comes with a warranty too. I wish I could send you a pic so you could see how well it works.

Hi J.!
I purchased one online that's called a SEDU ionic ceramic pro flat iron and I love it. My hair gets frizzy especially in the summer and this keeps it nice and straight. I never seem to have any luck with the ones you can get at the drug stores (type places) they just don't do it for my hair.
This one my hairdresser has also. It cost about 100 or so and comes with a felt type bag that you can store it in. I would google it online. I can't remember the website I got it from. :)

My hair sounds a lot like yours. I use a CHI, it is a professional one around $115.00. My hair dresser recommended it to me and it is the best. I gave her the money and she bought it for me. You can also get them on line. Their blow driers are great too, but a bit heavy.

Good luck with your quest!

I'd get a ceramic flat iron. You can get professional ones at Sally Beauty Supply (there are locations everywhere) without having a hairdressing license (I've been a hairdresser for 12 yrs). HOT Tools makes great one that isn't overly expensive but is gentle on the hair cause it you can adjust the temperature (stick with around 350 degrees). The key, too, is to not let the flat iron stay on one part of your hair for too long. Keep it moving so it won't burn the hair. Hope this helps!

Hi J.!,

I was a hairdresser for 8 yrs. before I had my son and I can give you two great recommendations for a Flat Iron/Straightener. I have had two in my years of Hairdressing and I started out with Hot Tools (which is a reasonable price $45-$99). It works great and I have had a CHI (which you can find anywhere's from $100-$150) which is just as awesome! They both do the job...for product that I use is the Matrix Sleek Look it comes in 4 stages. Shampoo and Conditioner and then I use the Lite Cream and then a high gloss finishing spray all in that order by Matrix. I have curly frizzy hair and this works great and I've never had a problem with any of these products. Good Luck and I hope that you find the one that works for you!

hey J., I was a hairstyler/colorist for 10years and I can tell you the the BioIonic system is by far the best! For the straightning hairtool you are looking at about $300.00 for the perminant straightning process its about $300-$500. This is an antifrizz, antistatic system. Good Luck!

For all it's worth.. Paul Mitchell.
Loved mine & miss it terribly.
Do invest in a good one, though. Do not expect to spend under $80.
Also, be sure to use a protector for your hair, too. Not having burnt hair is worth the extra cost.

I also hear Chi is excellent. Sally's beauty supply has a knock off that I hear is good. Still pricey, but, do not skimp!

CHI-$120.+ (con; it only has one setting, I have the same problem, but it only takes aprox. two times over the hair which is nice) 60 sec heat up.
Now any Salon person may say the same or may say that any are relative.
You can also check Ulta.com for others.
Also a quick fix for the ends is an (ex.) 1in. curling iron go in aprox. 6-9 sections and your all done. tussled type look.

J.,
I would recommend the In Styler (you've probably seen the informercials on tv). It really does work the way that they demonstrate. I have the Chi that other people recommend and the Chi makes hair stick straight and you can get crimp marks. The In Styler straightens hair but also gives it some body. Good luck!
