Take My Son to Doc or Wait Another Day? Confused.

Fevers are typical for teething - high fevers anything over 104 is NOT normal.

The cold might be allergies....it's really bad this year...there is still a lot of pollen in the air so it might not be a cold - especially if the snot coming out of his nose is clear...if it's yellow or green, it's most likely a virus or cold....

When kids are teething there is a TON of saliva that creates mucous and such...is he has a fever over 103 or 104 - take him in - immediately...

It could be teething, it also could be an ear infection.. I would call your Pediatrician and ask them.

unless his fever is over 102 and will not go down with meds I would not worry about it.

I believe anything under 101 can be from teething thats what my doctor said , he also said some people will argue cold and diahreaha (sp) symptoms are not frm teething but its common sense that they're producing more saliva which can cause a stuffy nose and upset tummy and bathroom issues...bringing him in ypu'd be exposing him to all of those sick kids...but trust your gut

Maybe his ears are bothering him I know kids that got ear infections with every tooth. Call your pediatricians office they will tell you if you should come in or not.

Best to call the pediatrician and perhaps run it by a triage nurse to find out if you should bring him in or not.

Both of my kids had fevers on and off for a *couple of weeks* surrounding teething.
The snotty-ness was a real problem with the top teeth were coming in. My kids were full on snot fests. Just as bad as when they're sick.

If the fever isn't consistent, I wouldn't worry about it.

Every book I read said that fever is not a teething symptom, but they are wrong. Almost all the teething kids I have encountered had a fever at one point and a seriously running nose which can cause a cough due to the stuff in their throat. If the snot is clear and the fever is mild, I would wait it out.

Side note - My kiddos loved frozen banana slices while they were teething.

What kind of thermometer did you use????
If its not working, then you won't get a proper reading.
If he "feels" HOT... then he is probably over 98.8 degrees.
That happened to my son last week.. he had a fever, our thermometer kept reading a normal temperature (it was a digital thermometer). But to my hand... he was HOT. So I KNEW he had a fever that was high.
I got another thermometer and he was 103+ degrees!

My kids never got a fever per teething, even for molars.

My son, also last week as I said, had fever, and then got Croup, runny nose, coughing, etc., and Conunictivitis.
The Doc also checked him for Pneumonia etc.
He was out of Preschool all week last week. Kept him home, took him to the Doctor etc.

Coughing: can ALSO be cause, due to sinus post-nasal dripping.
Per a cold. Or it can be due to a 'chest' cough in origin.

Just take him to the Doctor.

Sounds very normal. My son is the same way. I hate it :( But I have found that a teething anklet is a lifesaver!! I now don't have to give him any tylanol for him. It's wonderful!

Take him to be seen-could be his ears or throat-not because of teething-teething doesn't cause illness.

Teething can account for as fever up to 100.5*F. If a fever is 100.5* or higher it's likely due to an illness and not teething. Anything lower than 100.5* doesn't need Children's Tylenol or Motrin unless it's for pain management and not for controlling the fever.

If his nose is runny it can be from the teething. Remember that the teeth, ears, eyes, and sinus cavities are all very close together right now so he could even get some ear pain while teething. If his eyes get gunky and itchy, though, take him to the pediatrician immediately for treatment for pink eye.
