Hi,
My son is 6 months old and is cutting his 4 front teeth. he is absolutely miserable, screaming and crying, bless his heart. We have used tylenol, teething tablets, Orajel, daytime and nighttime. Is there anything else I can do to help him? He won't really take to anything cold, loses interest after a minute or two. He also has a vibrating rattle to use. I am willing to try anything to help him out. Thanks!
A.

MOTRIN (Infant)! I had the same problem used everything and she was so miserable. I was at the store late one night and a lady said that she has 4 kids and the only thing to help with pain and stop a fever with teething was Mortin. I got it and it worked wonders!

Hope that Helps.

We had great success with Calms Forte which is a homeopathic calming aid. It has chamomille and other ingredients that seemed to do the trick. Walmart carries it. You can also try popsicles - the kind that are in the plastic, like otter pops - the sweetness is something they usually like if you poke a couple of holes in it so they can taste it ;)

Good luck!

Have you tried Humphry's 3? This is what I used when my son was teething and it was amazing! My sisters all had children before I and they swore by this. I hope this helps. You have to ask the pharmacist for it they keep it behind the counter. Watch out for Motrin, the doctors don't reccomnd it to much for children younger then one.

My daughter was the same way. Try a frozen waffle. They are not as cold as the teething rings and babies seem to like the texture.

Ok - here's what my great-grandma did for me - it may freak people out, but here goes.

My grandmother let me chew on green onions. Sounds horrifying, I know! But it worked. It's one of those "old home" kind of remedies. I know that it sounds awful. My mother was horrified when she came in and saw me chewing on green onions, but it seemed to work. I didn't carry on about teething pain!

Hi A.,
From what I read from other responses, Motrin is best. I was going to suggest that too because Tylenol didn't help as well as Motrin with my son, and he cut multiple teeth at a time. He still got cranky which is normal. He never liked to use the teething rings as much. Only sometimes. He liked to chew on the edge of the playpen, and also the edge of the crib. If your son is using a binky, try putting the binky, nipple down, on top of an ice cube to get it cold cold and let him suck on it. This also worked with my son. If you do use the binky method, wipe the sides of it before giving it to him, or his little cheeks will be cold. :-) So, my advice, COLD binky, and Motrin. :-) I hope you find something that works for your little one. G.

I had an electric toothbrush that my daughter loved to have vibrate on her gums. However, my boys weren't so happy with it. My kids never liked teething toys. They did like to chew on the fleshy part of my palm, right next to my thumb. I would also put them in the high chair and give them a washcloth that I soaked in ice water. This seemed to satisfy them the longest. They would play with it, chew it and suck on it. Whenever it warmed up I would just rinse it out, put it back in the ice water and give it back to them. Good luck finding something that works!

The only thing I remember that worked was the numbing gel. I guess you're using that. Call his pediatrician. Get someone to call you back and tell you what is most effective.

My daughter is 3 1/2 months and is starting to teeth already... My sister recommended getting childrens benadryl and dipping your finger in it and rubbing it on their gums....It worked for both of her children and I tried it with mine and it seems to work too...

My boss freezes apple slices and then puts them in a munchin food net thing, you can find it in a store, but it seems to work really well for her. or maybe crushed ice cubes if that isn't an option because of allergies or anything.

Two things that worked for my daughter: number one wash cloth that was dampened with water then put in a baggie & into the freeze. I would get the wash cloth out before it was frozen solid... still bendable and chewy Yep, let him chew on the cold, wet wash cloth. It is softer that the rings and it can get to the front with out bumping his sensitive gums. It pretty cool & very low tech.

Number two was frozen bananas (if you have him starting to eat solids. Check with your doctor first.) If he is holding things pretty good in his hands- peel a banana, cut it into quarters and then push a child's plastic fork thru it so it looks like a popcycle. Put it in a baggie & freeze it solid. Take it out, sit him up in his secured high chair & let him have at it. It's very messy and as it melts it just becomes mush. But it feels good to his gums, plus he is getting something that taste really good & is good for him.

Tylenol never works for anything with my kids. I have found the Motrin on the other hand is a miracle for my kids teething and it wipes out my daughter fevers that tylenol wont.

My son enjoyed a warm, damp towel. Take a clean towel and run some warm water over it, wring it out, and then let your son chew on it. It seemed to work better for my son than any teething ring I could buy, and he enjoyed it more when it was warm than when it was cold. Good luck!!

A., looks like you are doing all the things...the only other thing i could think of, kinda with the frozen apples, they make little mesh holders that you can put frozen fruit in, like watermelon, my daughter loved it, and you don't have to freeze it either, soetimes its too cold. good luck, my daughter is 2 and still has about 4 teeth to go!

Hi A.- wow- lots of advice. Here is a different approach. When babies teeth their adenoids swell and push up on their eustachian tubes. This causes any fluid in the eustachian tube to pool in the ear- often kids get an infection, but sometimes you don't know about the infection as often this infection resolves on its own when the fluid drains. My recommendation: ear drops. Ear drops for pain numb the pain receptors in the ear canal that are swollen because of the pooled fluid- often babies are upset not because the teeth hurt so bad- but the pressure in their ears is miserable. Call your doc and get a script for ear drops- most over the counter ones are not strong enough- GOOD LUCK!!!!!

We were in the same situation about three months ago when our daughter started cutting her bottom front teeth. Nothing really worked until I found Gentle Naturals Teething Liquid. It helps with the pain, tiredness and irritability. It is an over the counter homeopathic liquid that I find at Walgreens. It is a lot easier to administer than the pills too. I am now using it again with the top front teeth and she is so much more comfortable and happier. I hope this works for you too!

I know you said he isn't taking to cold things now, but try this. Get a face towel and tie a knot on one end, put it in the freezer and then give it to him to chew on. even once the cold goes away the texture of the towel soothes the gums. It worked with my daughter and she got her teeth earlier than 6 months. Good luck!!!

What kind of teething tablets have you tried? I used Humphreys, they seem to work the best on my children. You can only find them at Walgreens in the baby isle or that's the only place I have seen them. Also, try a cold wash cloth and let him suck on it, that might help it to. Just run it under cold water and ring it out. Good Luck

When my daughter was teething, she too cut multiples. I too a clean soft wash rag, dampened it, not wt, damp. Then I put it in freezer. When I took it out, I loosened it up just a lil and let her chew on it. If clod itsn't good, then just a rag to chew on. The softness keeps them from hurting, but the slight roughness helps the teeth erupt quicker. The thicker the rag the better. Also, becareful with oralgel. Using it too often can cause irritation and infection. Keep up the tylenol. Good luck, somethings in life just hurt. Good luck, I hope it helps.

I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of hell for this, but I'm going to say it anyway. My little boy had a really hard time with his teeth. The ONLY things that worked for him is jerky (it helped cut the teeth sooner) and The company that I rep for has this stuff called Forever yours. Its a flavored prolong creme, I just put a little bit of that on his gums, The orajel never worked but this stuff did. My email is ____@____.com If you would like more information on it.

Hi A.!! My name is S. and I am a single mother with a 11 month old baby boy. When my son first started teething my grandfather gave me an old remedy to help with the teething process. I was also like you I tried everything from tylenol, motrin, humphrey's, and even baby orajel. These only helped temporarly. The rememdy my grandfather gave me was that you get an onion and pill the outer layer and throw it away, than get the next layer and put it in a pan with no oil just the onion and "fry" it until it gets soft.Once it gets soft let it cool down and let your baby suck on it. There is something in the onion that numbs the pain in the baby's gums. It helped my son out a lot!! Hope that this works for you!! Good Luck!!

Hi A.,

You haven't mentioned Highlands, so, I thought I'd just put it out there. I've used Highlands tablets and teething gel for my daughter and it has helped her a great deal. The best thing about it too is that it is quick dissolving - my daughter refused anything with a nipple so I would place it under her tongue and in a matter of seconds it was dissolved.

You can find it at any Walgreens.

Good luck with your little man :)

At Target, Walmart and Fry's Marketplace in the baby section they have baby utensil for food. It is mesh bag with a flip top lid and litte handle on it for the baby to hold. I put 2 slices of apple inside the mesh bag and my daughter chewed on it for hours. I tried that during teething and it seemed to relieve a lot of her pressure. Hope this was helpful.

The best thing I ever did for my kids when they were teething is to give them motrin. My dentist office told me to give it to them, but not until they were 6 months old. It worked soooooooo much better than anything else I did. Just make sure that you dose them according to weight and only as directed. More is never better.

Hi A., well the first thing u could do to calm him down is make him some chamomille tea this will help him settle down. 1 more thing hylands homeopathic teething tablets. They sell these pretty much anywhere from frys to walmart. My lil girl is turning one soon and luckily she never complained about teeth. My 9 yr old was the 1 that had bad teething problems.

I hope this helps u. Poor little guy I hope he feels better.
