Teething Hurts Me More than Baby!

My poor 8 1/2 month old is a late bloomer. Still no teeth and until fairly recently, really was great with Humphrey's tablets. Last night was my first sleepless night with her and Hump hrey's did not help. My husband and I would love any natural, homeopathic remedies any of you mamas have used. HELP!

EDIT:
When I say it hurts me more than the baby... I meant it breaks my heart! If I can take the pain for her, I would. She's always slept through the night... from the time she was born. So, having her wake up at night crying is definitely making me want to cry with her. During the day she's fine -- since I have given her all of the below suggestions (frozen bagel, crushed ice in mesh, Sophie the Giraffe, "raspberry-shape" pacifier, cold/wet washcloth). But at night she doesn't want to chew... she just wants the pain to go away and go back to sleep.

Hopefully, some mamas out there can help with homeopathic remedies for me. Thank you!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I was asking for advice on homeopathic remedies - so thank you for all those mamas that gave me info on that. On another note, I'm not against over the counter medication. My baby had ONE sleepless night and I wanted to see what other mamas out there have used. Since I've posted, I used the CalMag and Hyland's baby teething gel --- and it's worked. Thank you!!

Please - if you can't give the advice as asked for, don't respond at all.

We use the CalmsForte4Kids from Hyland's....rather than the teething tablets. We also found that the homeopathic tablets used WITH a liquid calmag works like a dream! CalMag is a natural painkiller and nervous system relaxant. We use Bluebonnet or Lifetime calcium that is blueberry flavored and give it 2-3 times each day to keep the pain threshold up. We were able to find it locally and keep it in the fridge after opening AND shake it before using.

Also, because I was breastfeeding, I took extra calcium (you know, good stuff, NOT calcium carbonate or oystershell) and that helped a lot as well.

My kids got teeth:

#1: 8 months
#2: 4 months
#3: 12 months

Good luck!

I've never used Humphrey's tablets, but I have used the Hyland's tablets (didn't really work for us), and the Hyland's teething gel (which did work really weel). With the gel, you can give it to them often, and it would often be enough to take away the pain and let him go to sleep. Hyland's products are natural. Hopefully the tooth or teeth already came in, the nights my son would get the teeth through the gum was always the worse, we would just have to hold him for a couple of hours until it was over, and then he would finally sleep.

If nothing works and it gets worse, you might want to go with some infant Motrin. I understand wanting to keep it natural (I do pretty much everything natural, and didn't give him any his first few teeth), but if she is in so much pain she can't sleep, she needs something else. It will help relieve the pain (in most babies), and let her get sleep.

Please be careful with the homeopathic remedies... many of them are not held to the FDA standards that OTC meds are! Tylenol used sparingly is very effective.

Aside from that...
- frozen washcloth to gnaw on
- frozen mini bagels- really can't choke on them b/c they just turn to "mush"
- keep her hands and nails clean b/c she'll be all over those too
- Anbesol for teething (not homeopathic, but it really does work)

Remember that this process is very very painful (think about it), but it will go on for the next year. She will get somewhat accustomed to the pain- the first month or so is the worst.

The frozen wash cloth was my kids favorite. Even just a cold/slightly wet wash cloth to chew on, frozen bagels-make sure you take away when it starts to get soggy, mesh bag/fresh food feeders-sold at walmart,target,walgreens-good for putting ice cube in for B. to chew or suck on. At night I prefer to give a little tylenol or B. orajel.

I am with you on not overmedicating children but I have to agree that homeopathic is not always better. Our pediatrician has always recommended tylenol for teething pain. All of my 3 children also enjoyed frozed blueberries as well.
