Have you tried a mesh feeder? My boys LOVED that thing, I'd stick an apple wedge (skin removed) in the freezer for a bit and then put it in the mesh feeder and let them go to town. Frozen peaches work well too.

Also, my boys HATED orajel, and it made thier mouths numb so they couldn't nurse well, so my grandma gave us a bottle of Hylands Teething Tablets... LIFESAVER! They are homeopathic and both the boys loved the taste of them, and they really helped them out teething. HEck I even used them when my wisdom teeht were bothering me. :) You can find them right next to the Orajel in the baby section at Wal Mart or Target.

Butg I would recommend the mesh feeder with the cold fruit for him to chew on, it'll numb his gums and having something to chew on will help him out too.

I too am going through the fun of teething so I feel your pain! With my first son, my savior was Camilia from Boiron. It is a homeopathic that comes in single dose liquid capsules (they look like eyedrops). You can find it in most natural foods stores or coops. (I get mine at Lakewinds in Anoka) My son would go from screaming to smiling (or sleeping) in less than two minutes! He also didn't like cold things in his mouth.
My current teether hasn't responded quite so well the Camilia. I tried the oragel and he cried more. There is also a homeopathic teething gel from Hyland's which doesn't numb but seems to work pretty well with my second son, though I am not sure if it is the gel or the gum massage when I rub it on. I have also tried the ice cube in the mesh bag that Simone was talkng about, I use diluted peppermint and or chamomile tea to make the ice cubes so you get the added calming effect of those.
Mostly you just have to wait it out until they pop up!

All Smiles All Natural Teething Oil. I know they sell it at Baby on Grand in St. Paul. It's not the cheapest, but it's all natural (if you like that!) & my son likes it. It smells wonderful & makes him stop crying instantly.

my daughter found this stuff and found it works. the pills are all herbal and they are called hyland's homeopatic teething tablets you can get them from walgreen or wal-mart. my gr-daughter is 9 months old and she has 12 teeth. after she got her 8th one in the next four came in at the samr time and someone told her about this pills. until they all came in my daughter when by the directions and was able to sleep that night.

Give him a frozen waffle, Wet a rag and put it in the freezer then give him the rag when just part of it is real cold if if he hates the cold just a wet rag.

Frozen peas are great for this! They LOVE them at this age because they can gnaw on them and it feels SO good and they also numb the gums. I give them a handful with lunch and supper straight out of the freezer. Once they get more teeth they don't eat them so much because they are so hard but on the gums they are great!

I'll chime in with another ringing endorsement for Hyland's. We used them for both girls, there's nothing better. I also used to buy mini bagels and freeze them. As long as you don't have a dog to steal it, a bagel should hold him for a pretty long time. Just watch for pieces that soften as he gnaws on it, you don't want him to choke.

Among other things, we, too are in teething hell. The doc said he's getting all 4 top ones at once. And mine also hates Ora-Gel. He will tolerate teething rings but they warm up so fast it's fairly pointless. The biggest problem is that because of the pain he's not eating much, bottle or solids. The only things that are working for us is the mesh feeder, with ice in it. (These things are $2 at Target in the baby feeding section.) The ice is nice because as it melts he gets a little hydration, too. Frozen washcloths have also helped. Haven't tried the frozen peas yet (simply because we have none in the house) but plan to--sounds like a great trick. Good luck...you feel so sorry for the little guys going through this, don't you?!

We went through exactly the same thing with all four of our kids. I know it's very tough and it does get better. My husband got so fed up with the crying and fussiness one day that he put our youngest in his highchair and gave him a freezee. We didn't even open it at first, just rounded the edges of the plastic so it wouldn't hurt his mouth. He really gnawed on it and numbed up the sore spots! Eventually we cut a very small hole on top so he could taste some of the popsicle juice and he loved it. It's a pretty temporary solution, but it does provide some quick relief! Good luck!

We use teething tablets for my Son. They work wonderful! It will not hurt your son at all. I put them in the sippy that I give to my son to drink, and it seems to help to relieve the pain and then he is happy again.. You can find them at Wal-mart or Target.

We found the best thing when we had our second daughter and discovered Hyland's Teething Tablets (wish we'd had them with our first!) These are a homeopathic remedy (which is NOT the same thing as "herbal" and is a specific term as opposed to "natural") that has been around 60 years, is FDA approved, all natural, and side-effect free. These were the only thing that worked for our girls--and they even liked them! We tell all parents about them and even gave them to our baby nephew as part of his gift this past Christmas!

Because lots of people aren't familiar with homeopathy (doctors either) they get it mixed up with herbal remedies and such. This leads to worries over safety and effectiveness. However, homeopathic remedies are prepared using a rigid scientific method and are a unique, safe, AND effective remedy every mommy should know about.

Misinformation abounds, but the biggest argument doctors (who actually know a little about homeopathy) make against these remedies is that any effect experienced must be a placebo effect because there's not enough of anthing in there to be doing anything. Tell that to a teething baby! They aren't old enough to even know what you're giving them--let alone experience a placebo effect (and even if it were a placebo effect--who cares, as long as they feel better?)

I'm a dental hygenist and Mom of 2. The average age for the first teeth to erupt is 6 months, so your sons should break through soon.
Poor little guy teething is just plain painfull, the only thing that is going to get rid of the pain is Infant Tylenol or Motrin, but it is up to you if you want to use it, it's not going to halm him.
My kids used to love to chew on a frozen wet wash cloth, it was softer than the teething rings.
Just remember it won't last forever and although you'll remember it, he won't.

My nearly-6-month-old is teething, too. He got his two bottom front teeth a couple weeks ago and the two tops are coming through now. We're using Hylands Teething Tablets and they are working well. You dissolve 3 of them in a very small amt of water and rub that into his gums. He loves the taste (of course, it has a sugar base). One word of caution is, if you use them at bedtime, the sugar might keep him up. We made that mistake once: after giving the tablets then nursing him to sleep, I thought he was down for the night, but he was wide awake a half-hour later. Probably a sugar rush.
