Significant trauma to the ear will cause the perforation and tinnitis. It is hard to say when the ringing will stop. How long has it been so far? If it continues, go and see your doctor, as well as get a hearing test.
I recenty had an ear infection that ruptured my eardrum. The perforation has healed but my ear is still loudly ringing. Has anyone else experienced this and does the ringing ever stop, if yes how long did it take? It's been a week and a half since it ruptured. I did go to an ent doc. Two days later (happened on a weekend). He said that it had closed already, and the ringing should stop.
Any info or insight with personal or second hand experience would be very helpful to my anxiety:)
Thanks
E.

This just happened to me 2 months ago (ouch!) and it took about 2-3 weeks for the ringing to stop. Happened to my hubby this year as well, and his ringing took longer to stop-- maybe about a month or so. It's easy to freak out and worry about it never ending-- and it seems like forever when you're waiting it out, but it should be fine. Try to have patience and good luck! :)
I just had a horrible experience with this. Did you go to the doctor 2 days after it ruptured or 2 days ago? What happened with me is I got a little fluid in my ear, so I went to a walk- in clinic and had them clean it out. They cleaned too much and ruptured my ear drum. Had tinnitis so bad, I couldn't stand it. I went back after about 4 days, and it had developed into a really bad infection. It didn't hurt at all, I only had the symptom of the ringing. So, I was put on steroids, antibiotics and ear drops. After about 4 days of taking that, the ringing was gone and my ear was healed. So, if you went 2 days after it ruptured and not since, maybe it has developed into an infection? I would head back to the doctor- that ringing is such a horrible thing to deal with, I couldn't stand it!
