If I buy the make up, I don't tip. If just for a "fun" afternoon of pamper - yes! I just used her time.
Doc office - no tip:)
I have a question about tipping. I recently went to a plastic surgeons office for a chemical peel and was unsure if I should be tipping. I feel like I should be tipping but I am in a doctors office. What do you think? Also should you tip the person who does your make up at the MAC counter?

When I go to the Dr. for my C-section I will not be tipping him. It's his JOB to take care of me..
When I go to the dentist I do not tip her. It's her JOB to clean my teeth.
When I go to the pediatrician I do not tip him. It's his JOB to take care of my children.
You are probably paying an awful lot to go to the plastic surgeon, insurance doesn't cover that!! He is making plenty of money off of you.
I wouldn't tip at a doctor's office. I consider myself a good tipper, but I wouldn't at a doctor's. I DO and would at a spa. At a makeup counter -no -it's always been my understanding that you get them to do your makeup so you can see the product on you. You then purchase some of the products if you like them.
Don't tip at a doctor's office even if it's a nurse or other person who works with you. These people are salaried. This is a medical office and you pay a fee and/or insurance for it.
Makeup counters - the person is either salaried or paid a commission on sales, or both. No tips.
Definitely tip at hairdressers, other salons, spas & esthetics places (not medical), and restaurants (including home delivery). Those are the only ones I think are dependent on tips based on the quality of service.
I also give something every year to my letter carrier, newspaper delivery guy, and trash men. Most people give something to their daycare providers and teachers, usually at the end of the school year - the best thing for these is collections by groups of parents for one large gift or certificate.
No tipping for a "medical" facial. Anything purchased at a hospitality business or personal service retail shop should be tipped. I have tipped when I had my make-up done at a salon...Not sure if MAC is radically different than that.
The other tipping rule that I am getting more and more stubborn about (probably due to getting older/crabbier): Tip for good (or stellar) service. Not just because you think you are supposed to.
I don't tip at either. I only tip my hair dresser (don't want her gapping me up next time..lol) and wait staff/pizza delivery if they do a good job (they usually only make 1/2 of minimum wage). Doctors get paid enough, and make up sales ladies make commission.
I wouldn't tip the doctor, but would the make-up artist.
Great question! I always wonder this when I have my peels. I never do tip also b/c it is in a doc office. But then again, it is an esthetician who does it.
Never tip at the cosmetic counter.
no tip for both things.. Mac is usally sold at nordstrom or a mac store.. This type of make up place the woman work on comission and it is their job to try make up on you.. But if I have my make up done for a wedding at a salon.. that is where I tip for make up.

I have NEVER heard of tipping at a doctors office, even cosmetic / plastic surgeon types. They are charging you plenty to cover their costs and Porsche payments.
no for the doc. At the mac counter don't you have to make a $40 purchase? Thats what I thought it was. If you are not buying something then it would be a nice gesture. At makeup counters they usually have a client book. If you are one of their good customers they will call you for special events/previews and stuff. =0)
