If you can and they deserve, I don't see why not. If you can't afford it, then don't feel bad. Perhaps you can give them nice little tips every now and then.
okay, so I totally tip my hairstylist who owns the whole salon. I resent it a little, but see no way around it. I tipped my house cleaning service generously because I knew the employees made jack $5^&. (paid $90 for service and $30 tip for two cleaners). However, the work was sloppy, and I have since hired a husband and wife team who came highly recommended. They own the business and do the cleaning themselves. I was quoted $130 for my house (which is fair for good work in my 3000 sf house). Both teams estimate to spend 2.5 -3 hours in my house. I'm really hopping not to tip because the $130 is really my max budget for cleaning. Truth be told, I cleaned houses in college (as an employee for near minimum wage) and was rarely tipped (though I did appreciate it when they did). Thoughts/ opinions?
Its a once monthly cleaning

I usually don't tip owners. The cleaning lady, I tip if she does really good job or if she is regular, a few times a year.
I am very miser with tipping people who do lousy jobs.
Are you talking about a one-time thing, or a weekly/biweekly service? I have a weekly housekeeper who I tip very well at Christmas, and occasionally in between to sort of make up for times when the house needs more work. But not every week.
They are making pretty good money, so I don't see why tipping should be mandatory for cleaning services. At a hair salon (when it is not the owner) the stylist owes money for the booth then can keep some of it. A cleaning service, especially at $130, is making about $50 an hour. I don't think you should tip if you don't want to.
I never tipped my cleaning lady, who was a friend, who worked for herself. I did give her a very nice gift card for Christmas and her birthday mind you.
I don't think you should tip on a regular basis...maybe $20 at xmas time.
