Hi Moms, Guess what I am 6 weeks pregnant, and I am still in shock, I wanted to have a baby all this time yes, but I am still getting used to the idea that I am pregnant. I am to go for a scan after 2 weeks time and I am a bit nervous and anxious at the same time.

My question for you is that, I am having PCOS anyway and had the skin on my face flaking and drying up most of the time, therefore I used to take vitamin E capsules to save my skin, but since I am pregnant, I hear vitamin E is not good for the baby. If anyone of you know please let me know what skin care products should be used and which is not harmful for the baby??? specially for the face and the rest of the body, is using Vaseline ok ?? what do you did you all use for dry skin during pregnancy??

Waiting to hear from you!!

M. J

Hi I used vit E oil in my tummy during my first and second pregnancy , I'm happy to say I have very little stretch marks, none after my first actually, the second pregnancy got me though but they're not noticeable.
I didn't know either vit e was not good? I'll do my research because I was thinking about #3 and was going to do the same thing.
Congrats!!!

1st, congrats! It's not easy to get pregnant w PCOS! You have already crossed a great hurdle!
I'm not sure I'd believe that Vit E is not good for baby while you're pregnant, unless you are taking mega doses by mouth. That's not good for YOU! I always took 1000 IU's daily while pregnant for my varicose veins, altho nowadays they recommend no more than 400 - 600 IU's daily, by mouth. Using it topically is different. I always tell my pregnant clients to use some form of Vit E on their perineums & bellies to help the skin elasticity.
ViT. E & cinnamon are both good for helping to regulate your blood sugar, and maximizing insulin usage. Important to keep in mind when you have PCOS!
And... I would definately think Vit. E safer than a petrolium based product like Vaesline! But w Vit E, there's the cheaper, synthetic kind. dl-alpha which doesn't work nearly as well, and the good, effective natural d-alpha, so in the long run, it saves money to go and buy the d-alpha. Another precaution is that sometimes cosmetic Vit E is mixed with the cheaper Mineral oil, which actually counteracts the good qualities of the Vit E, so be careful to read all the ingredients when buying any product to use topically.

YAY! Congratualations on your blessing!

I have never heard of topical vitamin E being harmful -- in fact, I use it for my dry skin currently, and I am 6 months pregnant. The only thing I hear to use with caution is retinoid products - and that is because the skin can get extra sensitive during pregnancy, so your skin will not react the same to a certain product as it did when you were not pregnant. Overall, I take a little more time to treat my skin with TLC -- while I am pregnant I have pulled away from the harsher products that I know can cause irritation and stick to mild cleanser, mild moisturizer, and a little less makeup.

I would think that while Vaseline is certainly safe, it may clog up your pores and give you more problems in the end. I am not totally certain but I do believe vitamin E on the skin (not swallowed) is OK. If you feel uncomfortable, there are many other alternatives that I am sure are safe -- consider Aloe vera gel or oil or jojoba oil. Both are great and they are less apt to clog pores if used sparingly.

I am on baby #4 and didn't know that Vitamin E was bad for pregnant women. I have used Vitamin E oil on my face for all four pregnancies with no problems. I also use stuff call Too Shae from Bath and Body Works. It is 100% shae butter and I love it. I also think that Vaseline and Baby Oil is fine too.

Good luck!

P.S. I have a doc appt. this morning, my first question is going to be about Vitamin E.

Quick addition, I asked my doc. and using Vitamin E on your skin is fine but don't take it orally.

Basically you need to avoid benzoyl peroxide, salicyclic acid, and any of the Retin-A products. I would not take Vit E because excessive amount of any vitamin or mineral are unhealthy. Vaseline is fine.

Hi! Congratulations!

I also have PCOS and Seboric Dermatitis on my face and scalp. (Same thing as cradle cap) I had zero flakyness while I was preggo with twins. It was awesome! I have a prescription that was safe to use while preg. It's called Eladil I think. I mostly use it on the creases around my nose and my cheek area near there. Sometimes it shows up in my eyebrow area too. Dermatologist said that there really isnt anything for my scalp and they don't know what causes it. I'm betting it's some kind of genetic vit or mineral deficiancy, but havent been able to convince a Dr. to run that kind of test. They say that insurance wont cover it unless there is a good reason! I think constant flaking and itching my whole life is enough of a reason not to mention the fact that any base makeup makes it look worse!
Hopefully the hormone changes your body will go through will keep your skin beautiful, and here is my wish that it will stay that way after your little one is born!
Oh yea- Vasaline is petrolium! Not good for anyone!

I used Burt's Bees products with my first...all natural ingredients, fantastic stuff. I used the baby buttermilk lotion, it smells amazing. An added benefit was that I could use the same lotion for my son after he was born and the scent was familiar (well, at least that's what I thought, lol!) You can find it on Amazon. Also, give it a little time before you invest in a lot of beauty products...your skin may change pretty dramatically. I'm 38 wks w/ #2 and my skin has been amazing lately, probably due to all the water I drink to stay hydrated. Vaseline should be fine too. CONGRATULATIONS!
