Hello. I would like to make a truck decoration on top of my son's birthday cake. Does anyone have any easy ideas of how to do this? I don't want to carve the cake in the shape of a truck. Just one on top? Or any other good ideas for a 2 year old boy's birthday cake? Thanks!

What can I do next?

A 2yr old will be very excited at any cake you put in front of him with candles. Save the really tricky time consuming cakes for the next few years. How about buying or making a rectangular chocolate cake, covering it with brown icing and then using a toy truck or two on top. You could use the icing pens to draw white lines like a road on top and maybe a toy stop sign. I did something similar for my son's B'day cake. He loves 'diggers' so I had 2 tiny tonka excavator's on top of a brown iced cake and then used different brown colored brownie chunks as the piles of dirt the diggers were pushing around. Big hit. If you can find the toy trucks at e.g dollar store then buy a truck for every kid at the birthday party/dinner.
Enjoy the party ! little kids are so funny to watch at B'days.

I know you said you don't want to carve...but I made a monster truck that requires very little carving - make two bread loaf pans of cake, stack, cut the back of one just a little to be the pick up part, then frost and put donuts on for the tires...it is really easy and very cute!

I saw a cute cake with a small front loader and dump truck on top, with the loader's bucket raised to look like it was scooping "dirt" (choc cake & frosting) into the dump truck. Easy and cute.

One of my friends buys her kids legos or playmobiles and decorates their cakes with them and it's part of their gifts.

We've done 2 of these.

1. We made a traffic jam/road construction scene using new Hot Wheels cars.

2. Got a new plastic truck/dumptruck from the toystore and placed it on top.

If you do this besure to wash and dry the wheels first.

Walmart or Michaels craft stores have those little wooden trucks in the craft section, they are wooden and you can paint or marker on them. Or maybe get a matchbox type car that is a truck and put it on top.

I used to work as a cake decorator. Our most popular selling (truck) cake was to use green icing on top, with a strip of brown down the middle (like a dirt road). You can ice it in white, and buy frosting spray at just about any craft store (I think wal-mart might even have some) if you don't want to deal with multi-colored icing. We would usually put a mound near the center of the cake, toward the back, and put a truck toy like it's climbing it. You could get a few more trucks, and put them on the 'road'. Good luck! :)

Also... try going to the bakery at Wal-mart, Albertsons, Baskin-Robbins, anywhere they sell cakes and look through their deco books for ideas. :)

LOl I just watched Cake boss the other day and watched them make car cakes. They had a lot of issues with it. But I absolutely love the idea of having a truck on top of the cake. I've seen such at party stores. Hot wheels topping etc.
