Trying to Get Pregnant - Warminster, PA

I am 36 years old and have a 17 month old son. My husband and I are going to start trying to get pregnant again. All I keep reading and hearing about how the chances of getting pregnant drop so much after 35 and how many couples with one child struggle with secondary infertility. I am trying not to stress too much about it. Does anyone have a positive success story in this area that will help my mind set about this?

What can I do next?

It is true that in general it is more difficult to conceive after 35, but more difficult than the first time may still not be difficult enough to notice. Don't start worrying unless you have to! Sometimes the anxiety alone can make conception harder. As for successes...I am the oldest of my parents 7 children. My mom was 27 when I was born and 46 when my youngest sister was born!

Hi L.,
My son is 11 years old and we decided to try for another....It only took us 2 MONTHS! I actually did do some online reading on the times to try and whatnot, not sure if that helped or not. But I am almost 5 months pregnant. I too, was worried about complications because of my age, but so far it has been a very normal pregnancy. Good luck and keep on trying!

One thing that could make things difficult is stressing about it. No matter what your age, stressing over it too much can make it difficult to get pregnant. I know where you are coming from though. I will be turning 34 this year and my son is going to be 8 years old. I would love to have another but my husband doesn't think we can afford it. He just doesn't want another b/c he got his boy so he's making excuses. I am worried that if I ever convince him that I will have problems. Just try to relax and let it happen. I have heard many stories of women in their 40s having babies. Good luck.

I don't know if this is what you're asking, but I know lots of people who have gotten pregnant who are older than you are. For example, my sister just found out she is pregnant (at age 41) and she thought she couldn't have any more kids. She had her kids when she was real young (three boys in her teens) and has since not been able to get pregnant. She just found out a couple weeks ago that she is expecting.

I had my first child 2 months before my 35th birthday. I got pregnant with my second child 3 months after my 35th birthday.

One sister-in-law had her first child at 38 and her second at 40. She did have one miscarriage between the two.

Another sister-in-law had her child at 38.

Hope this gives you some positive news to focus on. Good luck!

Hi L.,

I got pregnant w/my first daughter @ 33 and without even trying got pregnant w/my second daughter a month before my 36th birthday. The one thing I would really reccommend is not stressing about it, just start trying and enjoy it. I would love to hear how you make out.

Good Luck!!!

My aunt is either 37 or 38 and had a little bit of trouble getting pregnant. I believe she had a few miscarrages. But she had a very healthy normal preganancy and her son is now 6 months old!! So you will be fine, I would just talk to your doctor about it and keep him imformed!! He can give you some advice. I would suggest taking folic acid now though before you actually start!!

I am the happy mother of a 19yo, soon to be 11yo and a 3yo. I got preganant with my last at 37 and we weren't even trying. Quit worrying and let nature take its course. If you didn't have trouble getting pregnant with your first why would this one be any different.
Stop worrying and you might be surprised how soon things happen.

My step-mom has a friend who had her first child at the age of 43. Luckily she had no complications and now Robbie is 10 years old and very healthy happy little boy who is very involved in baseball and other extra-curricular activities. Hang in there you will get pregnant when the time is right!

I was 36 when I gave birth last year. Chart your cycles or buy ovulation strips from ebay. It helps a lot.

Don't worry! Actually the more you worry the more likely you will have difficulty. Last year, after I had finally given up (and relaxed :-) ) I got pregnant at the age of 38. I now have a healthy, happy 9 month old!
