I was on the pill for years. I stopped the pill in June 06 and had to wait 3 months before we started trying to get pregnant. After that it took 6 months for me to get pregnant.Good luck.
If you have been on the pill, how long did it take you to conceive after stopping the pill? I've been off it since June and each month I wait and hope. So far, negative.
Thanks for the advice. I went to a website and did the ovulation calculator/calendar thing. We worked on getting pregnant on those days and voila....I'm now pregnant! I was always trying when it was too late. So, thanks to you who recommended that website. I highly recommend it too!

It took me 3 months after I stopped taking the pill. Are your cycles pretty regular now? The 2 biggest things in getting pregnant are timing and method. I highly recommend the First Response ovulation test kit. I used to work for the company that makes it and it's the best one on the market, in my opinion.
Go to Babycenter.com and use their ovulation calculator to figure out your ovulation window for your next cycle. Then on the first day of that window, start testing with the ovulation sticks. The first day you get a dark test line, you have to "try", which brings us to the next important point. Not to get too graphic, I'm saying this to be helpful, not vulgar... but you don't want to lose any yield, if you know what I mean. Some of my friends who were trying to get pregnant would run to the bathroom or shower immediately after. Not good. Sperm swim at a very slow rate (something like an inch every hour, not sure the exact speed but you get the idea), so ideally you should "try" at night, then stay in bed and don't get up until morning. This is what I did and I'm now pregnant with #2. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!
Also once you get the dark test line with the ovulation sticks, stop testing for that month. If you keep testing the following days, you'll continue to get a dark line. Your most fertile time is the FIRST day you get the dark line. Watch for the cervical mucous too, but if you don't act fast after that appears, you could be too late.
Hi T., I stop taking the pill in June, found out I was pregnant in August. Some people are very different. Good luck
it took me 4 months to get preggo after coming off bc. i think it was more of a timing issue for us cause i know plenty of people that got pregnant there 1st cycle after bc.
we ended up getting an ovulation predictor test(i think it was ept or first response brand) it comes with 20 tests and when the test says ur ovulating,..well u know what to do!!!
worked on the first try for us and we are do in march with #2!!good luck!
Everyone's different, so just make sure you know when you're ovulating. If you don't want to buy one of those kits, just go online and use an ovulation calculator to figure your prime time. I have 4 kids, but with the first I didn't really know this info, so it took longer to get pregnant than it would have had I known when I was actually ovulating. I was on the pill, so it was maybe 6 months before success. I did try a kit but that didn't work well for me. After the first baby I learned about the online thing, and since my cycle was regular I got to be a pro at planning the pregnancy, and it ususally only took 2 months max. I would always wait once month after going off the pill before trying though. But like I said, everyone's different, and maybe hubby's swimmers were really strong (LOL). Also - not to sound gross - but when you ovulate your discharge will be thick, stringy and almost like mucus. I got that tip passed from my hairdresser- also a mom of 4!
It didn't take me that long to get pregnant after going off the pill (or the patch), but everyone's different.
I'd suggest finding a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It will teach you how to chart, so at the VERY least, you'll know when you're ABLE to get pregnant! With my first baby, we got pregnant on the first try. The second baby was during a cross-country pack up and move, so it took me about two months to get pregnant.
I took me about 6 months. My only advice is to stay positive and stress free. Eat well, exercise and don't maake sex a duty :o)
Hey T.,
Took us 1 1/2 years to finaly get prego after me being off the pill....but everyone is different...many things can affect you getting pregnany..i.e. stress, weight loss/gain....I think the rule of thumb is if you have been trying for a year with no success your OB/GYN can help you with other options...oh and when you least expect it it will happen....thats what happened to me...then when I did find out I was prego I couldnt believe it!!
Meg
I was on the pill for 12 years, went off in May, waited until July to stop using back up and was prego by Aug. BUT, I was able to feel when I was ovulating, this helped alot. It took one of my sister's 6 mo off hte pill, the other one 2 years. She finally got pre once she stoppe trying and looked into adoption. It's different for everyone. My MD says it can take 6-12 mo. Frustrating I know when you really want a baby. Try figuring out when you are ovulating, and have sex every other day during that 10 day period. Good Luck, hope it happens soon for you.
Go out and buy some ovulation kits so you can get a feel for when you ovulate during your cycle. Some months I would ovulate day 21 and other months day 14!
If you've been trying 6-12 months with no luck and you're under 35 your dr. can recommend some other options.
Other than that, stick with it.
Don't forget to take your prenatal vitamins every day. It is recommended to start them about three months before you conceive.
It took me a year after i stopped taking birth control to get pregnant. We stopped trying and figured we could not have any more children. We were pregnant 2 months later. we now have 3 beautiful children.
I stopped taking the pill in mid january when my cycle ended. Found out i was pregnant in the beginning of April. My DR wanted me off the pill for 2 cycles so I would know what my cycle was. He said if I didn't get preggo in 6 months to go back, and he would do some very basic preliminary tests. Obviously it didn't take us that long, but I would call your doc and just get his opinion.
Hi T..
I went off the pill after taking it for about 5 years (I was on and off it for years) and it took my husband & I almost a year to conceive. We were actively "trying" for a few months then decided to ease up a bit, trying to hard took the fun out of it & once we decided to be spontaneous that's when I became pregnant. It was right before a vacation was planned to wine country so that kind of put a damper on that trip but we managed to have a great time anyway.
I don't know that there is a specific amount of time after going off the pill, I'm guessing everyone is different. It took my body a long time to regulate afterwards & there were a couple of times that ovulating was painful. I'll never take the pill again that's for sure.
I wish you the best of luck, I'm sure you will be pregnant in no time ; )
Al my best,
C.
Hi T.,
I actually was worried too when I went off the pill. It turned out that I had been counting wrong. Once I started to count from the very first day I got pregnant right away.
I think our lucky was the 12th day from the start of my period. I think anything from the 8th to the 13th day is good for conceiving. Also try to relax...
Good luck and have fun!
I was on Norplant for 10 years, but got off of it in Jan 2005. I got my first period in July and one in September of 2005. I was told by my Doctor that it would take 6 to 18 months before my body would get back to normal after being on BC for so long...Surprise! I concieved my fourth cild the following November while I was on antibiotics.
So, don't worry and trying so hard.
Nanc
P.S. I got pregnant twice WHILE on the pill. That's why I switched to Norplant.
hi my name is D. i did take the pill and i waited and it havent happen i ben triying sents last year nothing happen you think something is rong with me or my fionce
I got pregnant immediately. That was 16 years ago. There was literally no time to change my mind. Apparently this is quite common. I wouldn't recommend it. The body should have some time to rest from the pills and get stabilized. Pre-pregnancy time also a great chance to detoxify, flood your body with nutrients and get really healthy to make sure your baby is healthy too and that you don't lose all your calcium and other minerals to the baby when you get pregnant.
If you email me or message me here I can send you a document about detoxing before pregnancy.
