Well my daughter will be 4 in Feb and is still in her toddler bed for now. It fits her just fine but we have gotten some really ncie bunk beds w/ storgage drawers underneath the bottom one. I was kinda wanting to just put one in her room so we will have more storage for her. I was wondering what age they really need to be in a twin. I was a bit worried about her being off the ground more and will prob get those rails but I didnt know if I should wait longer (her toddler bed hold 60pounds and shes only 32). Just wanted to know what is really the best age for a twin bed. Thanks!

What can I do next?

We moved my nephew to a full-size bed (more room to roll around and boy does he roll) when he was only 2. I was also moved to a full bed when I was 2-1/2. The bed rails are a great tool!

When, my second DC comes in April we will put him/her in a pack and play for 4 months, then move to the crib. So, at 18 months we'll be moving our DD to a full bed as well. Our pediatrician says it will be fine to move her then.

My daughter started in a twin bed just before her 2nd birthday. Mainly because that's all we had, and she fell out of her crib and onto her head(SCARY!) the night before. That was it for me. She didn't really have any problems with the transition. Ours has the drawers on the bottom part of the bed too, and I was wary of the height. We have it against the wall, with bed rails on both sides, and she's never fallen out.

However, you are the best judge as to whether she's ready or not. I have friends whose children have moved at 4, and some who've moved at 18 months. It all depends on the readiness of your babygirl. Ask her what she thinks too, so she knows she's part of the decision process. It could make the transition easier, for both of you since you would know she was ok with it herself, and she may see it as really becoming a "big girl".

Hi C.,
We moved my son to a twin bed from a crib when he was only 2 because I was pregnant and needed his crib. It was a hard adjustment for all of us, but we put up the bedrails and his bed is up against the wall as well. He has fallen out a couple of times but it was more he wasn't paying attention when he was getting in bed and slipped and fell. My son is 3 now and only weighs 30 lbs and he loves his big boy bed. Good Luck and I hope this helps.

We moved my daughter into a twin when she was 3 1/2. Although her toddler bed mostly still fit her, she is a big mover in her sleep and we knew the extra room would be nice. We got her new sheets and bedding she loved and she was ecstatic about the change. When we started, I wondered if she would fall out, so we pulled the trundle out to cushion her fall. She never fell out though. You could put the toddler mattress next to her bed for a little while if you desired for that extra padding or bed rails to help. I also agree that as they get older, their spatial awareness is better and they learn how to stay in their bed. I would definitely go ahead and try it!

My daughter will be 2 next month and has slept in a twin for quite some time now - abt a year actually as she has hated cribs/bassinets from day one as well as I needed her near me for monitoring with seziures and such. We started it on the ground for a little bit and then put it on the frame as she learned how to get off the bed safely. She has a safety rail from home depot on it and we have never had problems with her falling off. I think every kid is different. But my daughters twin isnt really too much higher than a toddler bed. It think its fine to move her now. Plus my best friends daughter is just turning 3 and has been on the bottom bunk for over a year now and does just fine! Good luck!

Hi C.-

We moved my son into a twin bed when he was almost three and a half. It was a joint decision with him (he wanted a "big boy bed") and we had just moved into our new house and didn't have a place to store it. He has it up against a wall with a bed rail on one side but you could always get two rails if it won't be against a wall on one side. I wouldn't worry about her falling out or anything unless she's a really wild sleeper. My son fell out of his toddler bed almost every night (it even had rails so go figure ; ) ) but hasn't once since he's been in the twin size. I think he's a little more aware of falling out now since he's higher off of the ground. Hope that helps!
