TWO Sonograms and No Signs of a Fetus! Has This Happened to You? with Follow Up

I'm 7 weeks pregnant (or rather, it's 7 wks from my last menstrual period). I've had 2 rounds of blood work which indicate that my HGC levels have doubled and my progestrine are were they should be. As of Wednesday, they were 12,180 and 17, respectively. I've had 2 sonograms and neither show anything! My last one was yesterday. I did have some bleeding yesterday which didn't amount to much and now there's a slight brownish discharge when I wipe - sometimes. I don't want these to be the signs of a miscarriage but am I just kidding myself?

Has anyone gone through this and ended up with a healthy growing baby? The drs say there's a chance - slight chance is what I pick up - that maybe the dates are wrong and it's just that I'm too early for anything to show up on the sono. I really want that to be the case but I'm also driving myself crazy with all this wondering!!! Even if it is off, how off could the dates be? I'm awaiting a call from my dr now but like everything else in my life right now, it's not happening soon enough.

Follow Up.

Ok. So my Dr called today and said I'm NOT pregnant. Said that given my HCG levels, I should at the very least show a "gestational pole." At least that's what I think she called it. I told her that maybe I was too early and how many other people shared their story with me about a fetus not showing up until weeks 8, 9 and even as late as week 12. She pretty much cut me off and said again that I was not pregnant and that I need to follow up with more blood tests. It was too late to schedule one for today but I will be there first thing in the morning

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Turns out, I had an ectopic pregnancy in my tube. My symptons didn't follow the typical symptoms of an ectopic but nonetheless it was. Thank you all for your support and stories. We hope and plan to try again soon.

Did you know that you can update the original post so people there can see your response? other wise, it's kind of spammy :)

Just curious, why all of the blood tests and sonos? Not much you can do at this point whether you are pregnant or not. It would be much easier if you waited a few weeks, until your body actually starts processing if you are pregnant or not...if you are pregnant, this added stress isn't good for your body, and if you aren't pregnant, it isn't good for your insurance. This is the reason many Dr's won't even see pregnant women for a first appt. until they are further along.

Not to be a brat or any disrespect to you, but seriously. It will happen for you one day, the more calm and patient you can be the better it will be for your peace of mind and body. Good luck ,I hope you get answers soon!

That sounds awful and frustrating. Can you get a second opinion from an independent dr?

there's now way for me to say if you're pg or not, HOWEVER, what i will say is DO NOT TAKE ANY MEDS TO "END" A CHEMICAL PREGNANCY until you are 100% satisfied(like a second or possibly third opinion) that you are, in fact, not carrying a viable pregnancy. women can have dif levels of hcg in the early parts of pregnancy. my OB and RE have said, in general, that "something" is visible usually when hcg approaches 1500. i am very concerned that you dr didn't order an emergency u/s for an ectopic check. if you have any unusual/sharp pains, get yourself to the ER IMMEDIATELY. did she do a third round of bloodwork and that's how she is saying your pg is over? if not, i'm not sure where she's coming from... idk, i'd really look at getting another opinion asap. good luck :)

I never went to the doctor for tests so early. You last period does not mean you ovulated and got pregnant exactly 14 days later as the standard pregnancy calculation assumes. If you have a longer cycle the dates might be off. But your doctor may be going on dates alone; there may be some other indication in your test results (ask why she thinks you are not pregnant). I hope everything works out for you.

I spent five year on nothing, between my two children. There was one time my home pg test said yes, but the blood work at the Dr. office said no.

However, when I got pg with my second. I went to the Dr. had blood work, he said the HcG was elevated come back next week. I did. We did this for three week, before he called me and told me I was pg. He was just as excited as we were, because he knew we wanted another.

Then the bleeding started. Small stuff, nothing big, so I had sonogram after sonogram. Three or four by the time I was 8 weeks. My Doctors partner called me, and told me they didn't find a heart, when I was 8 weeks along. She told me that we were going to do a sonogram the following week, and if there wasn't a heart we would have to talk about removing the tissue (
or some phrase like that). Note: so there was something there on the sonogram to see. We'll week 9 we went in and there was a heart beat! At 13 weeks I had a lot of bleeding! (Note they tell you in books to take stuff with you. Do that. It really helps to show the triage nurse, because there is a big difference between bleeding and spotting, but nurse assume spotting when you say bleeding. Take the clothes and the stuff with you and they get it!)

Anyway, I spent a grand total of about 6 of the 9 months on bedrest, and suffered an intrapped nerve, but my little guy was born by planned c-section and he will be 5 and a half years old on the 8th of October.

It ain't easy, and it takes time, but it is worth it!

Hi M. - I know you are holding out hope but what this is called is a blighted ovum which means that the pregnancy started but at a very very early stage wasnt able to progress. You will definitely want to follow up with your doc with the blood work that she wants to do. They should also check your ovaries to make sure you are not dealing with any kind of a cyst, etc. Your body should be able to normalize on it's own so if you really believe you are pregnany - please dont allow her to give you any medication or procedures that may terminate the pregnancy until you are certain it is a failed pregnancy.

Sorry to share something disappointing.

God bless
