I'm wanting to sing at my dad's wedding. I want to sing "God Gave Me You" by Blake Shelton. I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT SINGING AT A WEDDING!!!! What do I need to know? How do I prepare? The ceremony will be in a church or chapel of some sort. Do I bring my own cd? Do I seek out a guitaist to accompany me? I don't even know where to start! All I know is that I would love to sing at the ceremony and am certain my step-mom-to-be and father would love it (they've already said so).

Can you give me some direction?? Thank you!!

What can I do next?

First, if it is in a church/chapel you need permission from the church to utilize their services( microphone, and if you need an accompanionment) Usually they will offer their services if you need assistance, so that should not be hard. IF you are using just background music , all you need is to supply them with the tape or cd, and they will make sure someone will be there to set it up for you . Schedule time to rehearse, and make sure everything is set up. Usually they charge a fee for a pianist or guitarist to accompany you.

The best thing is to contact the church, and they will give you everything you need to know about singing at the wedding.

I sang at my father's wedding, and his stepson's. I think it makes it a lot more intimate when you do it yourself then hire someone. Good luck!

Unless you have sung in front of an audience in the past and/or have plenty of time to practice, you must ask yourself would singing be a better gift then a reading? Talk to the music leader/minister at the church where the wedding will be held. Ask him/her to listen to you and be very honest.

Well, I sang at my Father's funeral with my half sister, so you are smart to do this for a happy occasion!! And my answer is it depends on what you are singing. If the church has an accompanist that is available, then by golly that might be the way to do it. If you want guitar in the background or you can play it yourself then you do it. Evidently you are a great singer so just enjoy the day and sing your heart out. Congrats to Dad!

Go to a music store that sells sheet music. Go and ask the lady at the desk to help you, tell her the name of the song then ask if there is a place you can listen to it. If it is the right key, sometimes you can get it in a couple of different ranges, then purchase it. I would estimate the cd would be at least $25 for backup trax. Then get the sheet music that it goes with.

Once you have that you will need to practice at least 15 minutes per day so you will be confident and at ease when performing it. It really helps to practice it on the boombox you will be using while performing too. It will help you get used to the changes in the music, the cues, and to be able to work it right on the big day.

You might find some venues where you can perform it beforehand so you can see how you do. You don't want to get flustered the first time you perform in front of people and mess it up or get confused.

The more you are comfortable with the cd, the music, using a microphone, etc... the better your performance will be.

Here is the company that we buy all our backup trax for the group I sing in.

It is in OKC but they also have stores in Texas. They are super good about shipping stuff and it is high quality. They also ship stuff all over the country so they are very dependable.

The $26.99 is the backup trax cd. The other items that are $1.90 are the different types of sheet music. One may be for a full 4+ part choir, one may be for SSA, etc...you'll need to find out which one is for a single singer.

It's really up to you whether you want a guitarist or to use a CD. I think you just need to make that decision and then reherse. You'll need to figure out if you're going to sing the whole song or just part or what.

Easy way is to find out if the church has a sound system and to bring in the Kareoke CD OR to find the sheet music and ask if the accompnist or pianist for the church is willing to play for you.
