Hello all! Hubby got his residency assignment and will be practicing in University Hospital, San Antonio. We'll be living SOMEWHERE in North San Antonio. Our son will be going into 5th grade. I'll be looking for a job - probably admin related in the healthcare field as I'm doing pre-requisites towards a PA degree.

What can you share about schools, neighborhoods (North Loop), companies, fun, etc. in the area?

We'll be moving from Fort Worth - about 4 hours away - any moving tips are appreciated. I think we can gradually transport our stuff over time to avoid a huge moving bill.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

WOW, you don't have to make a huge move. My cousin, a surgeon, had to uproot to Detroit for 5 years with his family.

San Antonio is very nice. I don't know anyone living there. I've enjoyed the River Walk and shopping in that area.

I am excited for you! Congratulations.

I know the Newborn Hearing Screener jobs are awesome! You generally have every afternoon off and only work every other weekend and swap off holidays w/your co-workers. It involves admin work too plus you don't need a degree to work this job. It also pays pretty well for part-time. Also, I've had luck on Craigslist and Monster.com finding jobs too as well as w/staffing agencies. You can also do work at home jobs, TeleNetwork is now hiring for at home customer support and also you can check into LiveOps.com and West.com for work at home opportunities. I'm working for LiveOps right now and have worked for West in the past. I'm currently interviewing for TeleNetwork. LiveOps & West companies can work around your scheduling needs (you make your own schedule). TeleNetwork makes your schedule but you can tell them when you're available. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

This is a national site, so it's going to be a bit of a needle in a haystack finding someone familiar with that specific area. If you're buying a home when you move, a realtor will be a great source of information about the area. Otherwise, check out the state Department of Education's website and see if they have school test scores there (they do in California). Read up on the city's website. Once you've found a place to move, join Nextdoor.com for your neighborhood so you can get more of the finer details you want, such as recommendations for local activities and services.
