Hi, my son is a year old as of last month and he still wakes up in the morning crying. When he naps, he wakes up fine but in the morning,(or middle of the night) its a cry...very loud cry. At what age does this normally stop? Is there anything I can do to help him outgrow it? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I'm going the more simpler route and say he may just not be a morning person. My son wakes most of the time grumpy, and he's 2 1/2. What makes babies any different from us? Now, my son also likes to eat when he wakes up, but I don't believe he's hungry every day for the past 2 1/2 years. He has a twin sister who is so happy every morning, and a baby sister that is a hit or miss. Sometimes she is crying when she wakes, and sometimes just as happy as can be. She's usually happy when she has had a really good night sleep. That may be something else to look at. Is he sleeping good at night, and if not is he waking tired? That makes anyone cranky!! Good luck, and hope that helps a little.

I have two boys - 3.5 years and 15 months. I think they stop crying when they start talking more. My 15 month old now wakes up and I can hear him "chatting". Whenever they learn to express themselves more in different ways, they stop crying. I think it takes them a while to make the full transition though.

My son is 2.5 and still does it some days. Sometimes it's just from nap others it's in the morning and still others it's both. He wakes up at night too and occasionally cries then, which I attribute to bad dreams b/c I can't find any other reason. I have wondered when it stops too b/c it hasn't here! Sorry this probably doesn't help but just to let you know you're not alone.

My son has done that off and on and I figured out that he was not really awake and ready to get up. (He usually cried any time around 6 or 7). He was still not fully rested that early in the morning. Sometimes, I would just let him settle himself back down, but sometimes I had to give him his pacifier back and he went back to sleep for about an hour or two. He is 20 months old, and has gotten much better about just going back to sleep on his own until he is "ready" for the day.

Another thing I did was put a small board book in his bed so he would have something to look at when he got up if he had to wait for me for a few minutes. Some mornings I actually have to wait for him to finish "reading" before he is ready to get out of his bed. Every child is different and has to find their own routine for starting each day. Best of luck!

My son didn't stop until 3 yrs, and sometimes still does. He is NOT a morning person! My daughter still does on occasion, but not a dramatically. She is 2.

I always thought that infants cry in the morning, cause they're so hungry. My 9 month old goes down for 12 hours, so I can understand how she will wake up hungry, and is impatient when I change her diaper, before she eats in the morning.

Like another one of the posters suggested, he may be extra-hungry. My daughter rarely ever woke up crying after she was 3 months old, but she's never been much of a morning eater. Now that she's almost 9 years old, she's still a morning nibbler.
I also think once he learns more words and effectively uses them to communicate with you, the crying will stop and will be replaced with:"MOOOOOOOMMMMMMMYYYYYY!!!!!!!" LOL :o)

My 3-year old nephew still wakes up crying from naps and in the morning. My 15-month old son wakes up crying sometimes, but it seems he only does that when he is not well-rested. All I can say is all children are different. I'm no expert, so I'll stay away from dispensing any theories. Good luck.
