Hi make a decision to smile at everyone that comes across your path. You might add a bit of happiness to someones day. Then report back.
Second experiment push all negative thoughts out of your head and see if you feel a difference. Report back.

I smile all day at people. It does work wonders even when you are in a bad mood. If you cheer someone up it will inadvertantly cheer you up as well.
Have a good day!

I receive a daily inspirational email.....& today's quote was from Dolly Parton: "If you see someone without a smile on their face, give them yours!" I like it!

I smile at every person I see, all the time. Also, say hello to people all the time too. I don't ask "how are you?" to strangers. I believe that is a question that should only be asked if you truly want the answer and not as a form of hello.
Just the way I was raised.

I've done this - in college our professor made us STOP or at least reply when someone asked "how are you today?".... the response was amazing! It's stuck with me all these years....the difference you can make by LISTENING when someone responds to your "how are you today?"

I started doing that a couple years ago and I noticed how surprised some people are and how happy they seem to be when I do this. Now it's a habit. =) I'd like to do the second experiment. I tend to be brought down by my negative thoughts too much. I fight to stay positive or to not worry or be anxious or feel guilty but it's a constant battle. I'm a Christian and there is a verse in the bible about this. Take every thought captive... I need to practice this more. =)

Actually a girl in my son's 6th grade class did this as an experiment. In various stores she smiled at everyone and tracked/charted how many people smiled back. The Mall, Walmart and grocery stores people did not smile back very much. Target had the most people who smiled back. Time of day and whether it was a weekend or weekday made a difference. People who were rushing to get their errands done on the way home from were the least likely to have a smile to spare. On weekends, people were a little more likely to smile.

A smile does go a long way - pushing negative thoughts out takes time, and takes being around positive people or things.
