18 Year Old Daughter

Hi, My 18 year old daughter is sleeping overnight with a boyfriend. I have told her that this is not acceptable to me and that it is definetly not ladylike. She told me she would not do it again. Then she turns around and says shes going for a little whild and I call at 4:45 am and she answers the phone(which she did not do before) sleepy like and tells me she is on her way. I tell her what is the point at this time of the morning and that she should have taken her clothes with her. I told her she could not be a tramp around me and...

Teen Cell Phone Vs. No Cell Phone

I have yet to see something about taking a stand against cell phones. My son has been asking, actually begging me to get him one (he is 16). We have gone round and round on the issue. He poses a very good argument as do I. I need some additional insight as to why he should and should not have one. He is a “good” teen as much as I can tell but I worry about the TEXTING that gets out of control, the phone calls in the middle of the night or alone in his bedroom, who is calling and how long or often is he chatting with a girl or his...

What Is the Goal of Putting Your Kids in Too Many Sports?

One of my girlfriends has two teenagers. Ever since these kids could walk, they have been active in some sort of sport, usually more than one sport at a time. Currently, her daughter is in high school and she's in 5 different kinds of extracurricular activities. My friend's son graduated high school, goes to college part time and lives in her basement. He does not play sports anymore; never even got a scholarship. Her daughter hasn't gotten any scholarships either. I am not bashing the extracurricular activities as my son loves and...

18 Year Old High School Senior - Keeping Them Motivated to Graduate!

I have five stepchildren ages 12 to almost 18 and one daughter of my own, age 17. The oldest are twin boys who will be 18 on the 10th of February. They live with my husband and myself, along with my daughter. The younger three live with their mom about an hour away. The twins came to live with us just at the start of the school year, because their mom couldnt handle them any more. They are very sure of themselves, and have their own ideas about how they should be able to live their life, come and go as they please, etc. We are not super...

What to Do with Teenagers over the Summer?

Hi all, I have three stepkids (18, 15, and 9 yo) and a fourth-month old son. (All three stepkids live with us full-time.) I just recently became a SAHM when my son was born. This worked really well when the older three kids were still in school since I had the house to myself most of the day and could focus solely on the baby for the most part. Now that it's summer, though, I'm realizing that I've unwittingly become a SAHM to the three older kids and all their desires to go here, there and everywhere. Although we had the 9 yo in day...

Summer Vacation Drama

Sorry for the novel... Every year, I take a vacation to go see family on the East Coast. I have to book it months in advance, because everyone likes to get out of AZ in the summer and I have to fit the timing with my co-workers' vacations. We visit 3 separate areas- my best friend in one state, my mom in another state, and my dad in another. We worked out dates with all 3 parties in November. My friend and dad are unavailable for part of the time period, so I made sure to check if my mom could host us then. She said yes, no problem....
