Follow up to Earlier Question: Teaching Gratitude

I had posted earlier about my 4 year old DD flipping out at the mall today over a toy - picking one out, then changing her mind, then wanting both, and me not giving in. It really got me upset because it made me feel like my daughter knows nothing about being thankful for what she has but maybe at this age that's expecting a bit much. She will go a friend's house for a play date and any toy they have that she does not have, she thinks is the greatest thing ever and then wants the same thing for herself. On the other hand, she usually...

Things That Give You pause...smiles..tears...

One of my friends on facebook succumbed to cancer yesterday. However, during his fight - he NEVER whined about how he was feeling. In fact, he posted once recently: "Please, don't complain constantly on facebook how unbearably sick and near death you are when you got a common cold or allergies. Attention seeking at its finest." It was one of those things - that brings things into perspective for me....you know - it could be worse?! Then while watching Good Morning America this morning, I got a smile on my face...and sad too - 3...

Pre-teens and Young Teens

Is there anyone out there with middle school girls? How do you handle crushes? There seems to be a "need" to have a boyfriend. My daughter is about the only one not allowed to "go out" with a boy. She is very good about talking to me about everything. I know that I can't stop her feelings for boys and she is very excited that a boy "likes" her. Some of her friends have boys that have kissed them already. My daughter definitely knows her boundries. Most of her friends parents don't really want their children to have a "boyfriend" or ...

5 Yr. Old with Hyperactivity Problem

Hi ladies, this is the first post for me. Does anyone have a child with a hyperactivity problem? My daughter is the youngest in her kindergarden class(sept. birthday) and up until now the teacher has felt her problems are because of being immature. She has trouble sitting still and keep quiet during class. She learns well but everything is messy because she doesn't like to sit still to work. The teacher feels she will be left behind in first grade because of these problems. I am hoping to keep her back in kindergarden. I don't want...

Name Dilemma... Running Out of Time!

I am having a dilemma regarding my son's last name. My son's father and I are not married, but are in a relationship of sorts, although a somewhat unconventional one. My son has both my last name, and his father's on his birth certificate, in that order. They are not hyphenated, simply first, middle, my last name, his father's last name, in that order. Early on, I used my son's father's last name when referring to my son (at the doctor, etc.) But in recent months, my son somewhere picked up on the fact that my last name is different, so...
