My cousin is getting married next weekend and so I went to Macy's to check out her registry and pick out a gift. She is a 23 ish girl with a 4 yr old daughter and works as a waitress. Her fiance is 22 and works part time in retail. I was a bit shocked to see the things they registered for. Both are very nice and work hard and have been together since they were 17 yrs old, but when I saw she registered for $100 pillows my jaw dropped. Who needs $100 pillows?
This is meant is good spirits so my question is how much do you spend on your pillows? I change mine out way too often to spend that much $ on them. I guess I could see if you have a well to do life $100 pillows would be nothing to you, but for the average day to day family I just thought a bit silly.
PS... I purchased them a premium mattress pad they registered for and just to be clear I Am very happy for them.
The question is more focused on how much do you spend on pillows. hehe. Thanks!
Looks like I might need to check out these expensive pillows. Seems you guys are very passionate about good pillows, lol. :)

I spent $100 on my temper pedic pillow. You admit you go through pillows frequently. Have you considered that you have to buy them so often because you don't spend enough on a quality pillow? I don't think it's ridiculous if it's a nice pillow that will last a long time without becoming flat and unusable. I've had mine for several years and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I bring it with me on trips, even when we go camping because it is that fabulous.

Well if you don't think it's important...you should have been a fly on the wall when I realized that I left my 100 dollar pillow in a hotel room!!! I was absolutely beside myself and stole my daughters 100 dollar pillow until the hotel mailed it back to me :) I can not and will not EVER sleep without MY pillow again.
I have to agree with the other poster that said you won't have to go through pillows if you buy the right one in the first place. I have been using mine since 2004. It's been shoved into a tiny little box when shipped back from the hotel I left it in. 100 dollars divided by 7 years is only 14 dollars per year and I have no reason to change yet.

If you spend $100 on a pillow, you won't have to replace it so often. I probably have, all totaled, several thousand dollars worth of pillows, linens etc. on my bed. I personally find it totally worthwhile. Sleep is precious!

The joy of "bridal registry" is that you can let your fantasy run wild :) I also married young and (in hindsight) should have registered for more "practical things" but one of the most extravagant things we registered for (and actually got) were crystal "shrimp cocktail" glasses (which consisted of a stemmed "glass" to hold crushed ice and a smaller plain crystal bowl to hold the shrimps). We have recently celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and have not used those "special" crystal glasses once!! I guess what I'm trying to get at is that its not about how much the pillows cost ... they probably don't even expect to receive them. It was just about that "giddy moment" of "shopping" for everything that catches your eye without, for once, having to check prices! :) Best wishes to you all.

We like expensive pillows, i.e. the $100 pillows of which you write. However, I buy our $100 pillows for $25-40 on sale because I too have a hard time paying that much for a pillow. I would rather buy an expensive pillow and take care of it for 10 years (which I have) than buy multiple cheap pillows.

I've seen them at Bed, Bath for that and more (but there's a 20% coupon).
It's expensive, but sometimes worth it. That's why they are asking for them as a wedding present. It's not something you can buy yourself everyday.

I have a $100 latex pillow and I LOVE it. I've had it for several years and it's as fluffy as it was the day I bought it. I buy our kids cheap pillows, but the first time they are washed, they're ruined. I just can't bring myself to spend more on kids pillows though.
As far as the registry goes, this might be the only time in their lives that they get to ask for (and hopefully get) the nice things they would otherwise not be able to afford. Buy them a $100 pillow and they will think of you fondly every night!

When I was young, I had a $100 pillow. I loved my pillow and if I could find another one just like it, I'd buy it. I bought it at Lord and Taylor and it was the PERFECT pillow. I've spent years trying to replace it to no avail.
If someone asked me for a $100 pillow for a wedding present, I might just buy it for them... It is definitely not something they would ever purchase for themselves... and that would be exactly why I would consider the purchase.

Well, at the age of 34 I now have a king sized bed for the first time in my life. King sized sheets come with king sized pillow cases. King sized pillow cases look completely absurd on standard sized pillows. For Christmas this past year what I asked my mom for was big fluffy pillows. Now, she is a bargain shopper of the umpteenth degree so I am confident she did not pay anywhere close to what the price tag said, but they were labeled as $89 each (we were given 2). My husband thinks they're too squishy which means I get BOTH of them & to me, it's like sleeping on a cloud. I love, Love, LOVE my expensive pillows, but I would never have bought them for myself. It's the only piece of luxury in my entire life.

I agree that they may have registered for this because it is something they would/could never purchase themselves.
My house has a huge assortment of pillows. I have the $5 specials from Kohls all the way up to the prime $100 Ralph Lauren (2).
Quite honestly, when we go to bed, it seems that the RL's get put to the side and the Kohl's wins out. The RL's are too squishy for hubby and me.

me and my hubby went and got a new mattress. it is a stearns and foster. very pricey mattress (but we got an amazing deal)... anyways while we were there we found these pillows that are $100 a piece. We are not well off by any stretch of the imagination but this was one of the best investments ever. I am really rough on pillows. I was going through 1 every 3-6 months @ $20 each. (I don't like it when they go flat.) This new pillow that I got (3 years ago and has already paid for itself) is amazing. It doesn't go flat and it has a lifetime warranty. If it goes flat, gets ruined, or for any reason I don't like it anymore they will replace for my lifetime and as long as they are still in business. My husband got one kind and a year and a half later he decided he liked mine better. I took the pillow in and exchanged it no problem at all. SOOOOOOOOOOO worth the money!!

That's what I used to think until I started getting migrianes, and it seemed to come from my neck...and from my pillow. My friend told me about these awesome pillows, and so it was worth it to pay $60 for it! I thought it was ridiculous, but I also think getting migraines is ridiculous because of a pillow...hehe. I love it! I can't stand sleeping on cheap pillows now. There is a huge difference... I've never looked into a $100 pillow, though. I just read the comments, and people are saying that their pillows are really soft...mine is soft, but it's very firm. It has the right amount of give.

We have splurged on a couple $100 pillows. The memory foam kind with the removable washable covers. We've also bought 2-for-$10 at Target. In our experience, we have got what we paid for.
I know, I know, $100 pillows seem extravagent. Maybe they're using their registry to treat themselves to things they know they would never buy for themselves?
Similar pillows seem to go on sale quite a bit at Kohl's, and they periodically carry quality pillows at Costco. So if you want to get them $100-QUALITY pillows you might try those two stores.
Have fun at the wedding!

I usually get the 2 pack that is like $15-$20. I thought the $100 trash can on my sis-in-laws was nuts. It was just sainless steal didn't weigh it or produce bags or release pleasane scents (you would think right?). or the $2,000 hilicopter trip on my other sis-in-law did on hers was crazy! hehe. I heard someone once say that you register for anything you could ever dream of because you never know what your guests will get. But seeing the outrageous stuff on some registries, so funny!

our pillows are about 40 to 50 dollars each, and we have 4 of them on the bed, plus we have down comforters and pillow tops that were a couple hundred each, plus a bed fan, throw pillows and high thread count sheets.Id say we have over a grand on our bed as well as in our bed.
some people want an extra lush sleeping environment!!
My oldest has a bed like that too, only less pillows and temperpedic stuff
im normally quite frugal though.....id never spend over 30 on a pair of jeans or shoes!

Tho' I did buy an expensive memory foam pillow once. I still use it, but put it under the cheap fluffy pillow, effectively defeating the purpose of the pillow. LOL
I wash my pillows - then throw them in the dryer with tennis balls. Is that weird?

I used to buy inexpensive pillows, they were handy because with little kids, accidents happen and it did not matter if they got left at someones house at a sleep over, or someone got sick on one, or spilled juice on one etc...but then Andy was working at a Mattress factory and they started selling top end pillows and everyone at work was Given a few top end pillows to "test market" and I fell in love with my top end pillow!!! Oh my goodness, now I am SO so so Spoiled...they have heavier duty pillow cases that are washable and I still put another pillow case over that as well, I will never ever ever go back to the cheap pillows again, anymore than I would sleep on an inferior mattress...sleeping is important and my comfort is key to good sleep. We recently priced replacing my pillow and yes, it would cost at the minimum $100 to replace my pillow, with finances as tight as they are right now I judiciously decided I could wait!

I like to replace them often, so I just buy Target pillows for...what?...$5-10 ea. I have 6 on our bed (2 for shams) and 3 in my son's room, and 2 in our spare room...so I don't think I would ever shell out $1100 for new pillows! (even if I could afford it!)

Good pillows last longer! When my oldest was about 5, we bought some really nice Tommy Hilfiger pillows on sale - probably $100, but I don't remember. But I just threw them out last year (and my daughter is 19). So that's 10 years use! So for a $10 pillow, how often are you replacing them? If you replace annually, then it's the same cost. If you replace semi-annually or more often, then you're actually spending more. Now I wouldn't spend that kind of money on pillows that just decorate the bed or that the kids might sleep with and throw up on! LOL ;)

I spend anywhere in the neighborhood of $20-$40 on pillows (but I also keep them for probably way too long...) $100 pillows seems extravagant unless there is a special need (hypoallergenic or something). Better to buy them something you won't feel silly about.
