i want to know if anyone knows from personal experience if a bigger baby that's developed a week ahead of schedule comes earlier or about the same time as others or if it all depends on the baby and mother?

I want to know if it's ok to self-induce at 36 weeks or not? i mean my son is over 6 pounds and probably getting close to 7 and I'm only 35 weeks...i'm afraid to ask my dr. some things because she's so weird about my pregnancy...she's used to seeing NORMAL women and the perinatal specialist just deals with the rest...

....ok to make THIS CLEAR I WAS THINKING OF USING SEX AS AN INDUCTION METHOD!...i don't intend to cause my baby harm and I've been speaking with my dr.s about it anyway. I have uterus didelphys, and while it MAY NOT be such a problem for SOME it is for others...i'm lucky I've made it past 5 months and I don't want my son to die because he doesn't have ANY MORE ROOM TO GROW...NO my body will not necessarily accomodate him much more, i'm already having a problem with contractions that occur when my son pushes out on my stomach, they're not from him just pushing the wrong spot, he's got hardly anymore room there...i don't intend my son harm, his lungs ARE developed and his weight is great, and his development according to my dr.s is GREAT and I can deliver at 37 weeks no problem. THEY WILL NOT LET ME GO FULL TERM, it's not an option...so if you're going to give me advice, take that to mind PLEASE, because I don't want this to sound like I'm a bad mother, because i'm actually taking my child's best interest to heart...

thank you,

C. J

Dont go by what the weight on the sono says. It is usually wrong one way or the other. One of mine was a pound heavy and one was a pound light. Unless you are having problems (high blood presure, diabetes) leave the baby in. She needs the time to grow and her lungs are not developed even if she is already 6 lbs. I delivered at 36 weeks because of high blood pressure and my darling six year old had to spend two extra days in the hospital, has Asthma, allergies and a kidney mis formation. Follow the Drs advice and all will be good in the end.

C., They usually will not induce befor 39 or 40 weeks because the lungs are the last thing to develop and you do not want a baby with a breathing problem. The size of the baby depends on you and your husbands size when you were born and the babys DNA that he got from ya'll. The baby will know when he is ready and will come out then. Rest and relax now because you wont have time once he is here.
Best of luck

Everyone is different.

I'm 4'11 and about 130 lbs at 9 months pregnant, and I still had an 8.7 lbs baby (he was 4 days overdue, and also ahead of schedule). So, really every birth story is different!

Here is a link with the lung information many preemies have, called Hyaline Membrane Disease. They do have different types of challenges that can effect their eating and sleeping as well.

My nephew was a month early, and was on a breathing machine for several weeks. He is healthy now though that is he 2 years old, but it was tough for him in the beggining.

A baby is considered full term from 38-40 weeks. So, if you can hold out until 38 weeks, it would be ideal. I know you have had a tough pregnancy and have come pretty far.

Ask your Dr. about early induction, with a complicated pregnancy such as yours, she should be able to inform you of all the options pros/cons of induction regardless of her experiance with complicated pregnancies.

C., I agree with the women that are saying there is no reason to induce with the understanding there is no health risk to you or your baby. At 36 weeks my baby was measuring 7 lbs, 6 oz. My doctor said if the measurements are correct, then my baby could over 9 lbs. I thought "WOW" this is my first baby. My expected delivery date came and went, still no baby, so by 41 weeks I delivered. Sure enough my baby was 9 lbs. 12 oz. and 21 inches long. It was great. I had a healthy baby boy. It was scary thinking about delivering a baby over 9 lbs., but I was able to have a vaginal delivery without any tearing. It can be done. Good luck and enjoy this time with your baby inside you because once he is delivered your life will forever change ~ for the better.

Honey, do not try anything on your own. My son was three weeks early and only 6 pounds. Yet very healthy. There is more to development of infants then just weight. Their lungs have to develop and heart and incubators cause eye problems. Let the professionals do what ever. Do not try anything on your own. Go to another doctor if you have to but never monkey around with someones life. Even doctors do not predict the weight right on infants. Steriods are a question for me. I had a neighbor that needed steriods and lost her baby at 9 months. She blew up after she lost it huge and they told her she would never conceive again. A year later she got pg again is the baby is fine. I wonder if those steriods is why she lost it. I had a post delivery man who used to be a nurse and he said they should never give pg women steriods. So go online and look up steriods. My girlfriend's son committed suicide two years ago and the only thing she can figure out is he took steriods in sports and research on her own found that they can depress you. Please consult someone else or do what your doctor tells you. God Bless G. W

Women every day have babies and some have lost their lives. Complications but inducing labor is very risky. That really could result in a death. Also my aunt had a child that at that time when she was pg they gave the women a med for morning sickness and those babies were born without fingers. I saw a couple years ago in another country where they know this happens and showed all this kids with deformities yet still give them that med in that country. Be glad we are Americans and we have choices and the best professionals around. I had a stroke 9 and half years ago and recovered probably due to doctors.

1. I was told with my first child that she was going to be a big baby. Probably anywhere over 8 pounds. We did sonograms and belly measurements, but turns out she was only 6 pounds 3 ounces. So they really never know exactly how big your baby will be (there is a 20% error rate). She came one day early. With my second child a son the same thing happend again everytime we went for a sonogram (we had 6) they said he was measuring big sometimes two to three weeks older, but I knew when I concieved. Turns out he was not so big 7 pounds he came 8 days early, but we had a planned c-section. I think with my own experience they come when they are ready. With my son I was hospitalized with preterm labor as well at 31 weeks, but after that everything was fine.

2. As far as self inducing I am not sure what you would be doing, but I don't think that is such a good idea. Wait if you can and let nature take is course. If you are really worried that your baby is getting to big talk to your doctor. My daugter was pretty small, but I had a hard time having her so with my son since we knew he was the doctor told me I could do a planned c-section. I went that route and it was by far so much better than than vaginal delivery for me. Good Luck!

My sone weighed 8 ilbs 15.9 ozs at birth and my doctor induced me two weeks early. He was so broad in the shoulders he ended up getting stuck and I had to have an emergency c-section. I would talk to your doctor. With me his weight was not a delivering issue but his width. As far as developing he is right on track. He has never been sick or to the doctor other than for check ups.

My baby was developed ahead of schedule, and still stayed in a full 2 weeks late! From the measurements, they said he would be about 10 lbs. He only came out at 8lb 2oz. There is no reason to self induce. Babies come out when they are done! Don't panic about the size. Those measurements are only a rough guess. If you have had pre term labor problems, I would DEFINITELY not risk self inducing. Your doctor went to a lot of school to determine what is best. You and your baby will be just fine for a few more weeks.

Your baby will come when it's ready. Don't force the baby out by inducing or getting a c-section! Women have been having babies for ages. You CAN do this. Don't let medicine try to take over your birth.
