Hello Mom's,

I am running out of ideas on things to do with my 2yr old son. He is an only child, and once a week or so we are able to take him to the park, mall, or other places to see other children. He is well behaved, and shares/plays nicely with other children, but when we are home he is just bored and starts acting out. We color, read books (which he is already bored with the ones we have), paint, singing, peek-a-boo, letters, numbers, shapes, and other things. We are just running out of ideas of what other fun activities we can do with him to keep his mind learning. I know he could use more children interaction, but we only have one car, and I work evenings, husband during the day, so it makes it harder to plan for outings. Living in an apartment also makes it difficult for outdoors activities too. Any sugestions?

Thanks,
T.

So What Happened?

Thanks wonderful moms!

I dont know if I can take the bus with out a car seat, but I am going to look into it. Taking the bus would be a fun new experince for him as well even if its only once in a while. I am glad I am not alone in the bored child department. He was so bored yesterday he just kept telling me to leave him alone and he cried about it. I felt so terrible, so we will absolutely have to do something tommorrow. Thanks again moms,

T.

hi. why don't you try to put together a play group in your apartment complex. this way your son can play with other children and you can talk with other moms. you can take turns at weach others houses, etc. it's hard to keep them entertained at that age. i have a 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 year old. they attend school 3 days a week from 9-2 and they still get bored with me, no matter what we do.
good luck

My daughter is only 11 months, so I haven't encountered the boredom factor just yet. But in what area of town do you live? Can you take your husband to work and keep the car a few days a week? Maybe you can connect with other mothers who live near you and carpool to parks and other activities? There are all kinds of activity websited online...does he have the patience for crafty projects? Building things? Baking cookies? I get emails from the Disney Dream Team with recommendations for all kinds of kid projects. I hope you find some things that work for you! :-)

Try rotating his toys/activities. Place about 1/2 or 1/3 of his toys/books and such in boxes and place out of sight. About everyother week, pull out a different box. Kids get so excited to play with "new" toys. When the same things are out all the time, the novelty wears off.

Perhaps you could take the bus? Do you live near a bus route? If so, the library usually has story time for kids, you could pick out some new books.
