Okay... I don't know what to do here. My 3.5 year old WILL NOT blow his nose! I've shown him that we close our mouths, and then the difference between breathing in through your nose (sucking in the buggers) and how to blow out, but it's almost like he's afraid to do it.
I'm at my wits end. It seems like he would rather be a baby in this aspect of life and have me pull out the nose sucker from the hospital!!!! (Which we haven't used in years, FYI).
Please.... can someone tell me how to "train" my 3.5 year old to blow his nose? I don't want him to do it alone, mind you, just respond when I put the kleenex up to his face and say "Blow". Instead, he starts crying, he says he doesn't have to, or "doesn't need to", and then I wipe away a bunch of snot from his upper lip 2 seconds later!!!!

Thank you everyone for the responses. I know my son is only 3.5, but I've also seen many many more 3.5 year olds who know how to do it, which is why I came asking for advice.
In the end, I pulled out the nose sucker and yes, he hated it. He still hates it. He's asking me to use Kleenex instead, but I remind him that until he can blow his nose like a big boy, we have to get the buggers out this way. Then, I ask him "Would you like to try to blow your nose like a big boy?" and he says again, "No, I don't have to".
He's only 3.5 chill out!!!! , my 7yr old still can't do it exactly right. Wiping snot away is part of the package with having kids , along with wiping the butt
I had a hard time with my son as well. Turn it into a game. Tear the tissue into smaller pieces and put them gently into his nostrils and have him shoot them out of his nose, so he understands the feeling of blowing out rather than in. It worked beautifully for us.

Jeez, I've got 3 teenagers who STILL hate to blow their noses! When they were younger, they would try when I went at them with the 'snot sucker'!
my daughter is 3.5 and can't do it either, while I find it frustrating, I think it is just something that will eventually happen. My daughter knows how to blow air out her nose because she does it at swim lessons all the time, but when I tell her to do it into a tissue, it doesn't happen and she sucks in instead.
So, it is wiping snot for us too. Hang in there.

It may hurt. Maybe the mucus in there is dry.You may want some saline drops.
Or maybe he is afraid to breath out through his nose.. Hold one of his nostrils closed and have him blow through the other. Have him try it on you first.. Then see if he can do it to himself.
That will come a little later. It's a really annoying phase--but it is a phase!
He is not able to coordinate blowing through his nose. He is too young. Just wipe his nose. It doesn't really matter. Do not use the nose sucker - he will hate this just as much. Relax and he will be much happier and so will you.

Make it a game. I have my boys try and blow my hand off their nose. It doesn't come off until I feel like they're done, although I pretend that it almost does each time they blow. Works great and they've been doing since they were 2. They laugh the whole time.
Just use the squeeze bulb. He'll try when he's ready. I always held one nosrtil closed at a time on my kids to get the best blow out of them.Then a "Great job!" when they did it. If you keep coming at him with the sucker, he'll get tired of it pretty soon. Just remind him that you won't need it when he can blow his nose like a big boy. Like we hear all the time---pick your battles. This isn't worth stressing you both.
You really need to relax, the poor little guy is only three!! Frustration comes with the territory of having toddlers and the more you act frustrated and short fused, the tougher it's going to be on YOU, not him! Chill out.
