I am 39 weeks pregnant with my second baby and very ready to be done. I just lost my mucus plug and was wondering how long after loosing your plug did you go into labor. I know with my first it was only a day or two before. I know loosing that isnt nesicarilly a sign you will go into labor soon but thought it would be fun to see how long after loosing it did you other moms go into labor. I have been having stronger contractions but they are not real often or consistant. I was at the doctor on tuesday and was dilated to almost a 2 and 40% effaced. Do you think i could get to meet my little girl within the next couple days? Thanks for your stories!

What can I do next?

Sorry to tell you It was 3 weeks for me with my second! Apparently, the mucous plug can be lost and then reseal itself and then you lose it again. I started having contractions and they started and stopped...I was 3 cm dilated for 2 weeks before my water finally broke and I wend into active labor. But any way you slice it, you're going to have that baby soon!

With my DD, I lost my plug at around 10am, and had her at 7pm that day. With my twins, I lost my plug and went straight to the hospital (I was 30wks), and was in active labor...contractions 2 minutes apart. We were lucky enough to be able to stop labor with medication, and I kept my little guys in for 2 more weeks. I am pregnant again, and due in early July and know that I need to get to the hospital as soon as I lose my plug, as that means that I am in active labor.
Be aware, though, that every woman is different, and you may have any amount of time - from a few hours to a couple of days - to go into active labor, but I would suggest that you consult your doctor and get checked out just in case.
Good luck to you!

I lost mine on a Sunday afternoon and I went into labor that Tuesday early in the morning. My sister's mother-in-law lost hers and four hours later had her son. :)Best wishes!

Lost mine 3 days before going into active labor. As soon as I lost it I noticed I was having consistent contractions. 15 minutes apart for a day. Next evening the got to 7 minutes apart - not very strong though. By 8:30 the next morning my water broke & I had my daughter that evening. Congrats. It's getting close. My doc said most likely labor would start within a week of losing the plug. Happy times!

With my first daughter, I lost my plug at 9:30 a.m., called the doctor and he said go to the hospital. I'm not sure when the labor pains started, but she was born at 12:15 p.m. With my second daughter, I don't know when I lost the plug, but my water broke at 2:30 p.m. and she was born at 4:45 p.m. Fourteen years later, my water broke at 1 a.m. and I had to be induced at 10 a.m. cos nothing was happening (we were at the hospital and since my water had already broke, they were not going to release me). She arrived at 1:35 p.m.

Every one is different. :)

Good luck

I just had my third. I lost it at about 33 weeks. Well naturally I didn't have the baby till they induced me for medical reasons at 37 weeks. I was on a birth month and one girl lost her mucus plug at 36 weeks and was sure she was going early. Even went in so many times for false labor because she was just sure. She went a few days over.

I was told it means nothing... Just means you are dilated enough for it to come out and it can regenerate itself. Tricky little things.

I lost mine when my water broke. He was early and I wasn't dilated or effaced at all.

yay! Congratulations! You're so close! I lost my mucus plug within hours of giving birth. I want to say about 5 hours prior. I've heard some moms losing it days or even weeks before...but hopefully she'll make her arrival SOON!

my labor was within a week. keep that baby in there as long as possible; theres murmuring about lung development and SIDS being connected; lungs are developed last and they actually emit a hormone that starts labor. so do what you can to let it happen naturally, but if you lost the plug and its your second, i would say it should happen no more than a week from the start of losing the plug or the end of it whatever.

are you "cleaning out" yet?
it wont be long. dont stress!

Everyone is different, but losing my mucus plug did not mean labor was near for me with my 2nd child. My daughter was 11 days late. I lost my mucus plug over a month before I had her. I wasn't dilated as much as you at the time, though. Interestingly, I finally gave in to being induced and the morning I went to the hospital to be induced, I went into labor naturally. It was just her day!

it could be a few more weeks or it could be any minute. i was 1 cm dilated and 80% effaced for 3 weeks before having to be induced. start doing your squats and lots of walking stairs and hopefully you will see her sooner :) good luck and congratulations!!!!!!!!!

You never can tell...I was dilated to 3 and 80% effaced and waited 2 weeks to have my daughter. I also lost my plug at least a week before I went into labor. Plan on going at least a week late and then if she comes early you'll be surprised! (I went a week late with mine and the last 2 weeks were torture! I don't want anyone to go through that.)
