4.5 Yo Son's Eyes Hurt?

My son went through a short stage when he said that.
I think his eyes were dry.
I called the advice nurse & took him do the doctor.
The best they could figure out was "dry" eyes. A couple of times I put
some water or saline solution in his eyes to get them moist.
You said you took him get his vision cleared so that's good.
Maybe call the advice nurse. Poss allergies?
Poss passing phase? Poss tiredness? Poss dry eyes?

My son rubs his eyes too...but he has allergies! That was my first thought and all I got, sorry!

Allergies in the eyes can be really uncomfy and they can bug you even when the other ones aren't. My brother's are so bad that he wears light sunglasses indoors as well as outside. The only place he takes them off is at home. He has to wear them even inside my mom's house because he is so sensitive.

It sounds like he is having allergies and maybe you should try letting him wear glasses to protect his eyes for a few days and see if it helps. You could also try some children's claritin or zyrtec, or even benadryl. But, since the benadryl can make him sleepy, so it'll be hard to tell if it makes a difference. It really does sound like allergies to me. Poor kiddo.

The other thing is that he may need more or less light. I know that sometimes my eyes hurt very bad because I don't have enough, and most people would think I was crazy for turning on more lights. Maybe ask him if that would help, or give it a try. Or, he might be sensitive and need less. Did the eye doc say anything about that? But, it really does sound like allergies. Good luck mama!

Allergies or sinusitis? I know that my eyes hurt when I have a sinus headache and when I press on them it relieves it.

If my mom eats cinnamon her eyes get itchy and twitch.

I agree with allergies. A person can have itchy eyes from allergies even if they don't have other symptoms.

I wonder about dry eyes too. When you are concentrating on reading and writing, you blink less and eyes can get dried out. I would buy some preservative free artificial tears. You can get them over the counter. They will say specifically if they are preservative free. No visine, red eye drops, or any kind of allergy drops. I would put a drop in each eye once or twice a day and see if they help. If his eyes are dry they will help with lubrication and if he has mild ocular allergies, they will wash any allergens out of his eyes. You could also experiment with keeping the drops in the fridge. Cold eyedrops can be pretty soothing.

If you have trouble getting the drops in, have him lean his head back and close his eyes. Put the drops in the corners next to his nose and then have him open his eyes. And of course, be sure to keep the tip of the bottle clean. Hope this helps! :)
