The shoe thing is typical. He'll get it eventually. As far as the food, I save what my child didn't eat and offer it later if she's still hungry. If she doesn't want that, then sorry, be hungry. If he's hungry, he'll eat.
Hello ladies how is everyone. I have a four yr old that continues to put the shoes on the wrong feet. I have tried everything i know to help him remember how to put his shoes on right I have ran out of ideas. Can someone please help? totally normal. you might want to reset your expectations a bit...
Hi H.,
Does your son know what the letter "L" looks like? you could put an L in his left shoe and then show him how to make a letter L with his left hand. (fingers raised, thumb out vertical)--then he would be able to make a match and know which one was the shoe to go on the left foot. Praise him when he gets it correct and maybe use a sticker chart to reward him. good luck
Yep..totally normal!! Especially if he has velcro or buckle shoes..it is more natural for them to turn their foot to the inside to buckle, than on the outside which is where they are supposed to be. Just keep showing him for now, and he will get it at some point. As for the eating..well I hear ya! I have 5 kids, and the rule is that they must stay at the table for the first 15 minutes of the meal. They dont have to eat (except for one bite of everything) but they will sit with the family. Then, the younger ones begin to be excused if we need more time (which we usually do). We try to encourage them to stay, but recognize when it is getting to be too much. I offer my kids food every few hours, and they are allowed to eat a snack on the run..just not a meal. And, I dont allow them to snack on crackers and goldfish all day. Maybe am. snack is an apple, or goldfish and raisins. Afternoon snack tends to be the "treat" snack, but if they are still hungry, it is fruit or veggies only. Then dinner, and we dont do too many snacks after dinner..its a rare treat really. And, make sure he has a water bottle whenever he wants it..sometimes we all mistake hunger for thirst. But, dont let him have lots of milk, or even juice, they can fill him up. Consistency is the key (isnt it always). Just decide what is important to you, and stick with it! Good luck ~A.~
My 12 yr old will still do it occassionally! So normal!
Yup. Sounds like most 4 yr olds I've ever known. Not sure what to tell you other than, chances are he'll figure it out. Most of them do eventually so just hang in there.
Get a 1/2 poster board and put the shoes on it. Draw the shape of the shoes and encourage your child to keep his shoes there when he isn't wearing them. This should help him "see" which shoe is for which foot.
Try not to make too big a deal about food.....just leads to other issues. If you don't think your child is getting enough nutrition keep trying different things and consider a multivitamin.

My youngest son insisted that he liked it that way!
