Does he wear socks all the time? When you have him wash his feet, does he use an antibacterial soap? These would be my 1st 2 suggestions.
Hi again,
My son is 7 1/2, about 3 months ago his feet started smelling so bad it clears the livingroom in 2 seconds flat! I don't really get it, I know he's getting older and things are going to start having a funk but is there anything I can do to help with the odor?
Ive been putting that foot odor powder in his shoes and as far as I can tell it's not helping. We bought him new basketball and regular school shoes just a little over a week ago and already they smell so bad as soon as he takes them off I have to set them outside and have him go wash his feet
So do any of you ladies know of a trick or a product that works for eliminating the foot odor other than the powder?
Thanks in advance!!
Thanks for the responses! His shoes are not plastic or cheap by an means so that is not the issue. I had already tried getting him new, breathable shoes & socks.. Using the powder, and making sure his shoes are dry.
I was more so looking for home remedy ideas, which I got a few that I'm going to try! :)

Someone else posted a similar question already this weekend. Galiski is right on the money. Cheap materials that do not breathe contribute to the perfect environment for bacterial/fungus growth on their feet and in their shoes.
Vinegar foot baths will take care of his feet. Getting shoes that breathe (canvas or leather), mostly cotton socks, and allowing the shoes to air out between wearings (alternate days between 2 pairs of shoes) should solve the shoe part of it. Not sure if the ones you have are salvageable, and even if they are, if they are not breathable material (if they are cheap plastic or "manmade materials") then it will just come back again.
My son's wrestling shoes get smelly from sweat, and I dump baking soda in them and let them air out.... but you are talking about "funk" and that isn't just sweat stink, that is fungus or bacterial stink. Totally different thing and totally different treatment.
It the cheap plastic shoes that the sell. You MUST have leather which breathes. Plastic fake leather is a trap for Moisture and a breeding ground for funk. In my 20's I made the mistake of buying some cheap fake leather dress shoes ...once they got a little perspiration in them, that was all she wrote! I now only buy leather, and no more problem.
Have him soak his feet for 20 minutes in vinegar a few times before bed, to help get rid of any fungus, then make sure it's new leather shoes and CLEAN Socks. Boys like to wear the same socks over and over which will also funk out a pair of shoes forever. Don't allow shoes to be worn without socks unless they are sandals. Throw the funk ones away, they will never be able to be brought back .
We go through this every summer. Chickpea knows by now to alternate pairs of tennis shoes, wear socks, and wash her feet with water as soon as she comes home from camp or outdoor play. We give her feet a soak with ACV if they are extra stinky. I spray the tennis with Lysol and then wash them weekly. They don't smell like roses but I can drive the car with the windows up.
Norwex Sportzyme- will remove the odor from shoes or surfaces where the odor is present. From personal experience, these two products really work!!!!!!! My husband constantly has stinky feet and we finally began using the Norwex crystal deodorant on the bottoms of his feet. This product helps stop odor causing bacteria without stopping the natural perspiration or blocking pores. It's hypoallergenic and doesn't contain triclosan or fragrances.
Norwex boasts an extensive line of natural enzyme based products that allow you to tackle tough cleaning jobs without using harmful chemicals. All Norwex enzyme products are based on natural born-organisms, otherwise known as enzymes, which are found everywhere in nature and consequently are harmless to human beings, animals and the environment. In the Norwex enzyme collection each product has a different enzyme formulation and uses different enzymes for the specific task. The enzymes in each of the products breakdown larger particles into smaller particles that are then digested into carbon dioxide and water.
Let me know if you want more information! I'd be happy to send you a sample.

Have him soak his feet in black tea (cooled) for 1/2 an hour once a week. The tanins (sp?) in the tea will help his foot odor.
Make sure the shoes are leather, not mamade materials.
Gold Bond makes a nice spray powder now.
We've not had this problem-- my son is 10, which makes me think the shoes might be the culprit for yours.
Foot odor is directly related to the amount of toxicity in the body. Age has nothing to do with it. The reason boys this age start stinking is because they eat more junk and the synthetic chemicals have built up in their system. Non processed foods and a good absorbable multivitamin will knock it right out!
God bless,

This was sudden? Have you talked to his pediatrician? Any changes like this that are sudden and "powerful" are things I would call the pediatrician about and see if the medical assistant/nurse think the doctor will want to see him. It could be a medical condition and something that needs to be treated by a podiatrist or dermatologist.
Does he wear socks? My 7 yo DS feet stink to high heaven in the summer when he wears enclosed sandals barefoot. Crocs we are fine with barefoot, but not the sandals. Put a pair of socks on his feet and no issue whatsoever. It's just the build up of bacteria and microbes from the sweat in the sole of the shoe. Socks absorb that and get washed regularly. So no smell on him or his shoes.
