I have hypoglycemia and wake up SOAKED in sweat on occasion. Try eating a smal snack with protien before bed. It may help.
I have had night sweats a couple times a month for awhile now. It's not every night, and I figured it was hormonal (ovulating, etc) or I just had too many covers on. Last night my 4 yr old son had a nightmare and I went to console him - he just had his tonsils out :-( my husband came to help me calm him down. I was feeling nauseous, but I went downstairs to get a straw so my son could drink a little easier. As I put my hand on the pantry door I got extremely dizzy and began to sweat! I was afraid I was going to pass out. I laid on the living room floor for about 1 1/2 minutes and then I was fine. What the h*ll was that?!? When I've had night sweats previously I've been in bed and haven't gotten up, so nausea and dizziness haven't been a factor. Last year I asked my OB/GYN about menopause and he said "oh, you've got at least 10 yrs before that starts happening." I was almost 42 at the time. I am under the impression that you can look to your mom when it comes to menopause onset. She was a little over 50. Not sure what's happening, and I'm a little anxious about last night's episode.
A little background info, I had my thyroid removed 7 years ago and my doctors are really on top of making sure my dosage is the right amount so I don't think that's it.
So have any of you mamas experienced this? If so, what is it?
Thanks in advance!

It definitely sounds like perimenopause to me, if it's not thyroid. Menopause causes all kinds of nasty symptoms, so don't worry too much. Lots of people start in their early 40s.
I'm menopausal and on hormones, but I still have symptoms, even though they are better than they used to be before the hormones. If I have an anxious thought, I will start to sweat. Fun. Now I'm really aware of how stress and hormones affect me, because the effects are instantaneous. Anxiety/stress = cortisol = sweating/hot flash.
Menopause is not for the faint of heart.
Actually, I am going to suggest you get your blood sugar tested. All of those symptoms and frequency/infrequency can be related to low blood sugar.
I'm with the others that vote low blood sugar. This happens to me often with low blood sugar. I can sleep through it, but if I get up, I'll suddenly become very dizzy and nearly pass out. Talk to the doc for sure.
Menopause is the destination - you get to the point where you have not had a period for 1 entire year and then you are officially in menopause.
Perimenopause is the journey - and it can take 10 years or more to get through it.
Hot flashes and night sweats are definitely indications that your hormones are fluctuating and that can certainly be perimenopause and early 40's is prime time for it to start up.
You can have temperature issues for a long time before your period begins to become less reliable (and you can still get pregnant so keep up with your birth control).
My personal best so far is 72 days between periods.
I'm 51 and I've been in perimenopause for more than 10 yrs.
At this point I'll be glad when it quits for good already.
Talk to your ob/gyn.
If the flashes/sweats become unbearable you might want to consider hormone replacement therapy, or not.
For me, Estroven worked fine to control the hot flashes and just last year I got to the point where I don't have to take it anymore and I'm done with that issue.
My mom started having perimenopausal symptoms in her early 50s. I started having them in my early 40s.
What you describe here happens to me (now 46) pretty much every night.
Sorry.
Still might want to discuss it with the doc again.
:(
I would check with your family doctor. And unless your OB/GYN checked your hormone levels, the blanket statement of "oh you have 10 years..." is just stupid. There's a pretty wide range of ages - my older sister started menopause in her late 30's. I'm 45 and my hormone levels just started to shift a little.
Could be thyroid, blood pressure, but only your doc can really tell.
Night sweats and dizziness can be signs of diabetes or hypoglycemia.
Go to your Primary Care Physician and have a full work out and physical done. Ask for a full blood work up. Tell your doctor what you told us...night sweats, dizziness, etc.
Have you lost weight recently without trying?
Any other things you might have noticed.
Good luck!
Get your hormone levels checked by the OB. Sounds like menopause or perimenopause to me.
While your mom is a good indicator of menopause, that's not always the case.
My mom went through menopause at 50. Me- I started going through it at 36. No family history of primary ovarian failure at all. Most of the women in my family had kids into their 40s (my mom had me at 41!)
I'm on hormone replacement therapy now which helps tremendously. It won't hurt to get a panel done.
Hope this helps!
It really sounds like a thyroid issue. But...I have gotten really dizzy on 3 different occasions, the first, my platelet count had bottomed out and I was really anemic. The second, my blood pressure was extremely high. third, I had a case of vertigo (a problem in my inner ear causes dizziness and sweating). There are many different causes. I would have your family doctor run some blood tests and do an exam to figure it out.
I have experienced it. Went for testing, and doctors found nothing conclusive.
Do let us know what happened.
F. B.
I suggest that this could be peri menopause but I suggest that you make an appointment with your doctor to rule out anything else. I might call the advice nurse first to ask about it. I would not see a specialist before seeing either your gp or ob/gyn first.
I have night sweats often and my doctor says he doesn't know what causes them but I'm OK. Just a bit uncomfortable. I did have some tests. LOL I'm 70 and been thru menopause long ago.
I would definitely go to your primary care doctor or to an internist, if you have one. They need to do some bloodwork and help you figure this out. I could see this if you were going through menopause. I certainly have gone through this stuff, even WITH HRT, though it's better than without HRT.
However, you don't seem to be in this category at all, and I hope you will go find some help!
maybe have your iron levels checked? When I was a teen I was anemic and I would get dizzy, black out, sweat, and some times even actually faint. It could be a blood sugar thing as well.
my doc told me perimenopause can begin 10 years before menopause! I think even monthly hormone changes could cause some of your symptoms. I just get out of a hot tub and I get nauseous and feel faint. It doesn't sound like anything to worry about to me, but then again I am not a doctor. If it happens again why not visit your internist/GP for a second opinion so that you can relax?
Yes, could be perimenopause though it sounds pretty intense. I'm surprised your ob/gyn mentioned menopause but didn't inform you that (as someone else here noted) perimenopause can get going a full decade before full-on menopause. It's different for each person so we can only give you ideas -- if I were you I would absolutely go to the doctor to have the thyroid meds checked too; though they stay on top of things for you, there could be hormonal changes etc. that could be messing up your meds. And one can develop reactions to meds even if you've been taking them successfully for a long time. Do get checked out.
Sounds like perimenopause. It can start in your 40s. Your doc is talking about averages and should do blood work & incolude hormone levels. Also consider glucose (are you overweight?) instability (pre-diabetes) or high blood pressure. I get the dizzy things during allergy season. It's my only symptom other than slight congestion . But there are days when I sit up in bed the rooms spins! (and I know what you're thinking - no it's not a hangover I hardly drink anymore - hahahaha.) I think it's the impact of swollen sinuses on my ear tubes which impacts balance...
And as it regards thyroid medication - my mom had and 2 of my siblings have thyroid issues and take medicaion - but it's once a day and the levels can drop when today's pill hasn't yet taken affect...
Talk to your doctor and rule out any big things.
Ummmm.... I was that way every night when I was pregnant with my son. Night sweats, dizziness, nausea (and vomiting, lots and LOTS of vomiting) Would that be a possibility?
My first reaction is anxiety. Then I saw where you live! Could you be still feeling anxious from all that happened just 6 months ago? Anxiety and dizziness go hand-in-hand. Also rule out any inner ear problems by going to an ENT.
Feel better!!
I'm diabetic and I get that if my blood sugar gets to low.
