M.S.
Sister, sister-in-law, friend, friend's sister-in-law, and another friend all had it done because of really heavy periods. All but one were successful.
Has anyone had one? What was your experience? I have read that some women heal very quickly after and have no other complications and then i read that women often get infections after surgery and have severe pain??
I am thinking about having one done as my periods are horrible! I have also read that after csec and tubal ligation that women have nothing but problems after having those procedures done. I have had both! :(
I have been on 5 different birth control pills to try and help control breakthrough bleeding and nothing is working. I dont quality for a hystorectomy (sp) so that was out. I dont know if i would want that anyway. Thoughts? Opinions? Experience?
Thank you everyone for your feedback. I had to leave unexpected on Friday, so i didnt get a chance to write SWH. Since my periods are so irregular and not much cramping or heavy flow that is why GYNO does not want to do a hystorectomy (sp) since it is a very invasive procedure. All that is happening is my periods come whenever they want. I have break through bleeding at least 3-4 times during the month. Sometimes i have to wear tampons, sometimes not. I would go months w/o having a period and then BOOM here it comes in full force! Like i said, i have been on 5 diff BC pills and i really hate doing that when i dont have too since i have my tubes tied, so we will try this first. Thank you everyone! Happy Monday!

It was an option my Dr. gave me about 10 yrs ago. I realize things are probably better now with the overall procedure but he did say that they do have to go back and re-do it sometimes, even 2+ yrs down the road.
I personally did not like that option because my family was complete, I had some really freaky blood tests that were scary, they thought it could be leukemia at the time, and I wanted to be DONE with it all.... so I asked my Dr. for a complete hysterectomy.
My complete hysterectomy was the best decision I ever made for myself and I feel SO much better. It is not for everyone, I agree, but it worked for me. No more pain, my blood work is now normal and has been, I am not on HRT (I did use the patch a few years), I did opt to have ovaries out as well. I have had no bad side effects, no weight gain, no loss of libido, and overall I feel and look better.
My SIL had the same option 1 year after my surgery. She opted for the ablation. She was fine and everything seemed to be ok up until this past year and in April, she had a complete hysterectomy (appx 9 yrs after the ablation).
It is a personal choice and dependent on what you and your Dr. decide is best for you. I hope you find a solution that makes the best sense for your health.
Best wishes.
I had periods from hell - every two weeks, flooding, cramping so hard I would double over and vomit.
Had an ablation almost a decade ago - not so much as a spot since then. Cramped for a couple of days after, and that was it.
No loss of libido from the procedure, and I'm still going strong in the sack at 50.
My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.
Just had one done in May. I was desperate for relief because my periods were out of control & I even had to call in sick because of them. The doctor offered to do it in office or completely under in a surgical center. It would have been close to $2000.00 for the surgical center or a $40 copay in office. I chose the $40 copay telling myself if I can get through child birth I can do 2 minutes of pain. They did give me pain killers & muscle relaxers but it was exactly 2 minutes & I counted while the nurse held my hand. Best 2 minutes of pain (besides my dd) that I have ever experienced. So nice to not have periods anymore & not have to buy tampons & supermaxi's! There was minimal spotting afterwards for about 3 weeks. I haven't regretted it.
I suggest researching the best doctors that do this procedure in your area. Do a couple of consults to see who you want to go with. I had a great doctor who was highly recommended, but it was the nurses that he had in his office that sold me. They were so amazing & compassionate.
Feel free to pm me if you have any more questions.
Blessings!
I had an ablation 5 years ago. It "worked" for about 18 months...I ended up having a hysterectomy and NEVER regretted it...we were done having babies...my parts weren't working right and it made sense...
I don't understand why you wouldn't qualify for a hysterectomy, unless you are 22 years old....
Go to your OB/GYN...get them to make a case for your insurance. If the case is made correctly? You will get the hysterectomy and be able to NEVER worry about vaginally bleeding again...
Good luck!
no experience but I hope you find some relief soon.
I know 3 people that have had them, and had no issues.
I had mine done in June. Was a little more painful that first day than I was expecting (in hindsight, I wish I would have asked for something stronger than Advil!) but have ZERO regrets. This surgery has been life changing...really. Had hysteroscopy, D&C & endometrial ablation (Novasure) at same time. Was outpatient but under general anesthesia, home after 4 hours or so. Very minimal spotting the first day or so, a few weeks of cramps & discharge (sorry, TMI) for a month or so. Doc warned me it would be a full 6 weeks before my new "normal" settled in and he was right. Haven't had a period since the procedure. I went from bleeding or spotting 14ish days at a time to NONE. I feel better, love life is better, no more ruined clothes (again, sorry TMI)...a huge burden has been lifted. I waited 2 years after my doctor first mentioned this option - really wish I had done it sooner! Doc warned me that if this didn't work, next step was hysterectomy so I was more than willing to try this first, especially since our family is complete. I can't comment on issues post c-section or tubal since I haven't had either of those though. Good luck!
I don't know about ablation but I think there are many other ways to control painful periods.
I think the incidents of post-tubal-ligation problems are related to other things and not to the procedure unless there is other things going on at the same time. I had zero problems after my tubal ligation, just the usual few-day recuperation. I spent years in women's health education and we never, ever had any medical evidence of complications just because the tubes were cauterized. An occasional post-surgical infection, yes. A very rare failure, yes. But routine problems with periods? There is no medical basis for that.
