Does anyone know if accupunture helps with conceiving? I have tried some of the homeopathic herbs but they make me really nauseated.

What can I do next?

You are kidding, right? You probably should see a fertility specialist if you have been trying to get pregnant for more than a year. Don't go down the fringe medical path. See a reputable doctor. If nothing is found, then perhaps you could try another approach, including prayer. Watch out for quacks and check out the Better Business Bureau of any organization or group offering nontraditional medical treatment. Did you check out the BBB for the source of your herbs? Be very careful of what you put in your body. You might check out the WWW for alternative fertility treatment but check it out very very carefully. Good luck.

I would recommend seeing a homeopath for the correct remdedy for you. My friend went through 5yrs of fertility treatments that resulted in one miscarriage and finally a pregnancy. She didn't want to go down the same road again so I suggested she see my homeopath. The homeopath conducts a two hour consultation/interview to learn which is the correct remedy for you, it is called a constitutional remedy. Six months later she is pregnant! You can contact me for more info if you are interested. I've heard accupuncture works but may take awhile. People don't realize health issues, including infertility, involves so much more than the obvious. The entire person, from head to toe, inside and out, needs to work in harmony to function properly.

Acupuncture is a great fertility enhancing tool, and I highly recommend it. It helped my husband and I conceive after 5 years of trying (I am 41 and now pregnant with our first child, due in May!). We were ready to go down the IVF route, but our fantastic fertility specialist (Dr. Richard Marrs at Califorinia Ferility Partners in Santa Monica)recommended acupuncture first (he deserves a lot of credit, given that he does perform IVF, and could have just as easily had us go that, much more expensive, route). He referred us to Dr. Shiao-Ting Jing, who is a not only an acupuncturist, but also a licensed doctor. She is brilliant, while also kind and compassionate. After a full physical and chart (temperature readings) evaluation, she felt that I was a good candidate for acupuncture, and recommended trying for 3-6 months. After only 2.5 months of treatment (acupuncture 1x a week and herbs 2x a day for five days) I was pregnant! Not only that, but I felt great: more energy, while also more relaxed. Her info is:

Dr. Shiao-Ting Jing
TCM Healing
12304 Santa Monica Blvd (between Bundy and Barrington)
Suite 120
L.A. 90025
Tel: ###-###-####

One thing to keep in mind: you might want to rule out any physical hindrances which acupuncture cannot help with, e.g. fibroids, polyps, endometriosis. These generally require surgical removal. Dr. Marrs is someone who handles these types of procedures (he removed polyps and appendectomy-related scar tissue from in and around my uterus. After one subsequent miscarriage, I still was unable to conceive until acupuncture). His info is:

Dr. Richard Marrs
California Fertility Partners
11818 Wilshire Blvd.
Suite 300

Best of luck to you!

Hi A.,

It did work for me after attempting all forms of medical aid except hormone injections for almost four years. After the ups and downs of trying so many things unsuccessfully, my husband and I had given up. I then started going to see an acupuncturist and decided to add infertility to my list. In a very short time I felt great and in six months I was pregnant much to our surprise as we had not been trying for about three years. I was 40 when my son was born last year (he is a year old now). I would say that it is worth a try but it can take a little while. My acupuncturist is located in Fountain Valley and I would recommend him to anyone! If you want more information, please feel free to contact me.

Good luck!

Acupuncture has been used for centuries to regulate fertility.

I just received the statistics below from my acupuncturist in her newsletter just today.

Lori Guynes L.Ac.

Santa Barbara, CA 93111
###-###-####

One example:

New Study: IVF Success Increased by 65%

Women undergoing IVF were 65 percent more likely to become pregnant when they combined the procedure with acupuncture, a recent study has shown.

The remarkable success rate occurred across seven acupuncture trials involving 1,366 women in a systematic review and meta-analysis published in a February, 2008 issue of the British Medical Journal.

Acupuncture was delivered either just before or just after embryo transfer – a step in the process of in vitro fertilization (IVF) whereby one or several embryos are placed into the uterus.

The research was carried out by scientists from the University of Maryland in the United States and the VU University of Amsterdam in Holland.

It is thought that acupuncture stimulates the neurotransmitters that trigger the production of gonadotrophin-releasing hormone, which controls the menstrual cycle and a woman's ovulation.

Acupuncture is also thought to stimulate blood flow to the uterus and boost the production of endogenous opioids, inducing the body to relax.

Acupuncture has been used for centuries to regulate fertility.

I have three friends who used accupuncture to get pregnant. My good friend did it for about a year, and the accupuncturist had her taking herbal supplements as well. It took a year, but it worked when nothing else did. They had been trying for over 5 years, with three miscarriages, and were thinking of doing expensive fertility treatments, but didn't end up needing to. If you need a referral, I can give you the name of their doctor. He's in Koreatown and doesn't speak much English, but he works wonders!

There is a wonderful reflexologist in Palos Verdes his name is Dr. Chin and people come from around the world to see him to get pregnant. Reflexology is treatment through your feet. He "rubs" your feet, and I put it in quotes because it sounds great but sometimes it can be pretty painful. He is only there in the mornings. But when I was in his office the last time, a woman came in from Japan with the baby she concieved with his help. He also uses herbs that helped my one friend carry her baby to term. Which once she delivered the doctors were amazed by how short the cord was. They said that most babies would not make it with that short of a cord.

I only wanted one child ever. The one piece of advice I can give you is keep a positive additude and when everyone around you is getting pregnant just keep thinking " Im next!" Dont get down on yourself it dosent help the situation. Good luck! God Bless!

I don't know anything about accupuncture and conception, however, as someone who had a TERRIBLE time conceiving...I never lost my weight after my first baby and decided that was it. A friend in the same situation lost weight and got pregnant immediately. My doctor (OB/GYN) said that this was common so I lost 30 pounds and the day I lost my 30th pound I found out I was pregnant. So if you have any extra weight you might try this. I wish you all the best. I definitely know your frustration. S. M

I was told by someone, who was trying to conceive later in life that accupunture has about a 25% effective rate. However, this practice has been around for much longer than our western medicine. I do believe that are body and mind are one in the same. Excuse the metaphor here, you can't drive a car with a flat tire, or on an empty tank of gas and vice versa. What I am saying here is that there may be some other underlying health, however minor, that can make yours or your husbands body less ideal to conceive. Accupunture may help those other conditions come more in balance to give your body a healthier environment to conceive successfully. I turned out to have a thyroid functioning problem and learned from my specialist that I can carry a pregnancy to term 25% of the time, giving me unsuccesful pregnancies (75%) the rest of the time. Giving your whole body special health consideration is key to getting your body ready for pregnancy. If at the very least it can have a placebo effedt, help you think more positive about your body and health, this may be your key.

I didn't have accupuncture to conceive but I did have it while pregnant and it worked wonders on all sorts of issues. I would think that it could help conceive also. There is a great place in Los Angeles on Wilshire called Berlin Wellness Group. They ROCK! for all your pregnancy needs, whether it be pre, preg or post.

They even have a program of accupuncture for labor and delivery that cuts down on complications and labor pains (if you're doing it natural) Sooo worked!

answers from Los Angeles on

Hi A.,

I'm hoping to make this short...but I never seem to be able to.

When I was about 29 I was in two car accidents, one while at a red light, another while a passenger. By the time the second one happened (7 wks apart) the damage was so severe they wanted to do a hysterectomy, along with a laundry list of other injuries and problems. The doctors said I'd never have children and the excruciating pain I was going thru would only go away by taking out all my female organs.
By the Grace of God I had already had a Chiropractor back then. I started with one when I was 21 after injuries from two OTHER car accidents started to surface from when I was a teenager.

Since I wasn't married yet...and not really knowing if I ever would've had kids anyway....I really didn't want to 'remove' that option.
My Chiro said keep ALL your body parts - you'll have kids.
It was 8 years of care with that particular one. And although many of the ill's I went thtru dissipated, I still struggled. We met a different Chiro who's technique started out being used mostly on top athletes. Within ONE month I went from 3 times a week, still barely walking right and mostly on my backside....to twice a MONTH and getting my life back!
Two years later I delivered my son one month before my 40th birthday. Six years later I delivered my daughter...who is now 18 months.
I am an extreme case and I no longer put up with no - I just keep searching for what I believe is out there to make things possible. Because there really ARE so many possibilities.

My Chiro literally worked on my 'organs' from the front...to remove scar tissue...which we believe is what would have kept me from ever having kids.

But not all cases are like me. A simpler case was an employee of my Moms years ago. She was only 26, had one son who was already 8 and had attempted a number of times to have more kids but miscarried 5 times. I BEGGED her to go to the Chiro. Most people believe that if you don't feel any 'back pain' then why would you need a Chiro? She didn't have any visible problems in her eyes. But finally 2 yrs later she did, and she went. I tried for so long to help her understand there are 'subluxations' that occur in the spine that can hold up many aspects of a person being truly healthy and fully functional to the best of their capabilities. Since only 13% of the body feels pain, you can't possibly know if you're gallbladder is receiving the nutrients it needs, or what is going on until you land at the Doctors. Which are 'crisis' care physicians. Not health care physicians. If that were the case we wouldn't have the problems we now have.

When she finally went and started regular adjustments, the Chiro told her from day one...you'll be pregnant in a year. In the 11th month of care...she was pregnant. She had one or two more after that never having to go thru a miscarriage again.

My Chiro is in Pasadena off of Lake...probably not far from you.
His name is David Lewandowski D.C. @ ###-###-####.

After 26 yrs of doing alternatives I've come to learn that unless your body is well supplemented and and your spine correctly aligned, your body just can't work at it's optimum.
Before anyone should move forward with drugs/fertility drugs and the like....give your body a chance to get corrected before other avenues are visited.

Which brings me to the Herbalist. I started with one right after my son was born. I now tell people it would be best to go to an Herbalist first. Let him tell you nutritionally what your body is missing. First you go thru detoxing. Women especially have yeast they don't even know about...which later turns into various cancers.
After detoxing the body then he goes in and basically rebuilds your immune system and corrects whatever else your body might have going on.
You can start with one or the other or both at the same time if you want. But I have found that the body responds better to Chiro care once you've started with the Herbalist first because your body is so much stronger.

After decades of damage to my own body from western medicine, inoculations, overuse of antibiotics, 4 car accidents - just to name a few....I pumped out 2 healthy babies in my 40's - my daughter without any drugs at all (I was determined the second time around since my son and I both had reactions to the epidural).
I'm healthier and stronger now then I was in my 20's. Considering my demise for life was deafness, hysterectomy, pain killers for life, and walking with an aid....I think talking care of 3 other people in a 5 bedroom house (on my own, which you can only appreciate after you've had to cut off all your hair cuz you can't hold a hair dryer) and until recently my 15 & 19 yr old fur balls....I like the alternative outcome much better.

Never take no or can't or won't happen - for an answer. Yes I was the rogue patient doctors loved to hate. Because I never settled for their diagnosis'. But at the end of the day only you are truly stuck with how things are - so the choices are yours.
Try every possibility. You're still young and have time...but it shouldn't take that long after you've had a few months of care to see where your body is at at that point....and the next step, if any, you'll know what to do.

Acupuncture, acupressure, whatever types of alternatives available - might all help. But it's still important to feed your body properly and make sure the spine is at optimum in order to get the most out of it that you want.

God Bless. I'm sure you'll find the right answer.

Yes- you can find scientific studies that it does appear to improve the chances for getting pregnant. I had weekly acupuncture for three months and when I wasn't pregnant the first cycle- I complained to my acupuncturist, and he said "you are not READY to get pregnant". He said the same thing the next month. The next month- he looked at my tongue and did all the other things they do, and at the end of the treatment, he said "OK you are ready- go get pregnant". Well, wouldn't you know- I got pregnant a week later. I highly recommend acupuncture. I also charted my temps for those months and that is important because it will help you see if/when you are ovulating.
Best of luck!

I have a cousin who was told by a fertility specialist that she couldn't have a baby (biologic issue with her, not her husband). She also had irregular periods. She therefore adopted her son. At some point she tried acupuncture treatment(s) and started having regular periods ever since then. She unexpectedly got pregnant and now has 2 boys.

I'm not sure if acupuncture helps with conceiving, per se, but it did get her body back in balance. I personally have used Natural Family Planning method to both prevent pregnancy and to help conceive (it helps you know when you are fertile and not fertile). I have regular periods, and I got pregnant the first times I tried. I have 2 kids.

I'm not one to put much faith in homeopatich remedies, but after paying $15,000.00 for 3 attempts at IVF and having the first attempt fail, I was desperate to get pregnant and also not to have the IVF be a waste of money. At the recommendation of my fertility doctor, I had accupuncture done immediately prior to the embryo transfer on my second attempt at IVF and sure enough, I got pregnant. Whether or not the accupuncture really helped, I don't know, but I certainly would try it again!

Ditto what Cheri said.
First, you should have a check up with your OB/GYN to rule out any fertility issues. Tell the doctor how long you have been trying to get pregnant etc. I am not a doctor, but I would stay away from trendy herbs unless your doctor approves it. What you might want to do instead is take "pre-natal" vitamins already.... and make sure you get enough folic acid. Lots of women, per their doctor, take pre-natal vitamins prior to conceiving to get their body ready and get the proper vitamins it needs.

What is also REALLY important, is you have to keep track of your periods, and also get familiar with ovulation symptoms. Ovulation is when you can get pregnant. There is a whole bunch of information about this on the
internet. Here are some links for information:
http://www.google.com/search?q=ovulation+calendars&ie...
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&a...

You must keep track of your cycles... write it down and log it. You might also want to use a "basal body temperature" thermometer.... this indicates when the body is ovulating. You can get it at any drugstore. Remember, you have to know your body, your cycles and when you are ovulating.
These are the things I did to get pregnant... and we were successful.. my first pregnancy being when I was 38. It took about 6 months. Ever woman is different... but you should get checked by your doctor first and let him/her know you are trying to conceive.

As for acupuncture.... it can help with morning sickness once/if you are pregnant. I had bad morning sickness & migraines with both my pregnancies, and per doctor approval, I had acupuncture and it went away, completely, after one treatment.
Good luck,
~Susan

YES! You should look up an accupuncturist who specializes in fertility. Many women have had success with this.

I can share my experience. I went for acupuncture about two years ago because I stopped taking the pill and my period stopped. We were going to try natural family planning, so I was taking my temperature every morning, and I could see that I wasn't ovulating. My sister suggested acupuncture. Judging by my temperature readings, I ovulated the night after my first treatment. Long story short - once was all it took. We now have a beautiful baby girl.
Also, I can highly recommend the book "Taking charge of you Fertility" by Weschler - a great book. I thought I was pretty well informed about my body until I read it.
Good luck!

I use accupuncture all the time. I am unsure whether it will help with conception but it is worth trying. It has been very effective for me when I have used it for other health issues.

You may also have a low progesterone level. The only true measure for knowing this is to have a saliva test. There are holistic and homeopathic doctors who do the saliva test...you will have to research your area for the right doctor. If you find your progesterone levels are low, there are many sources for natural cremes. My company provides a safe, metered delivery system that you may be interested in, should you discover you need to boost your levels. You can respond to this email if you are interested and I will see if I can help.

Accupuncture is amazing! Try it first!

It helped me - after a year and a half trying we conceived two months after adding acupuncture to our other regimens. I don't have a good recommendation for here in San Diego though, b/c I conceived and had our first child in New Mexico. Good luck!

My acupuncturist helped us concieve. It involved months of treatments - for both of us - and lots of hard to drink Chinese herb tea. If you are on the west side, Dr Christina Choi is really amazing.

I personally know several women who had trouble concieving and regular medical docs never checked their hormone levels. The girls that I know that went the natural route had their hormone levels checked and they were all low on progesterone. I hear acupuncture works too.

Hi A..

I went to an acupuncturist for a while to help with numerous things. I have to say that it completely cured me of allergies. I'm not sure if it helped with conceiving but I do have to say that I asked my acupuncturist to try needles to help just that, and I did eventually conceive. So why not try it? If you can afford it or if your insurance will help pay for it there's no reason not to try. It's nice and relaxing, that in and of itself could help you to conceive!

I had 10 acupuncture sessions in the Fall of last year...didn't help. I had them because I had read that they can help regulate your menstrual cycles. I've had crazy cycles since stopping the birth control pill, anywhere from 28 to 58 days, usually around 40 days. After my last acupuncture session in December, I got my period 28 days later. But still no pregnancy. So who knows. My doctor did give me herbs and tea to drink (really nasty tea) and I took it all. If I had to do it over, I would have still had the acupuncture, if only for stress relief. It did really help me to relax. But I wouldn't put much hope into acupuncture helping you to conceive. (Although it has apparently worked for some women...usually in addition to IVF, to reduce the stress.) Good luck to you! :)
