Acquired Undescended Testicle

One testicle of my 4 yr old ds has ascended in to his groin couple months ago. Since then we haven't seen it in the bag. Both testicles were down in the bag before, since his birth. We are somewhat confused because all we see in internet is that this is something observed generally at birth or before age 1 and taken care of with surgery before age 2. We took him to pediatric urologist and he said our son has yoyo testicle. Indeed it is palpable above the bag and can be pulled down by hand but moves up when released. Urologist recommended surgery. We'll take him to a second urologist for second opinion hoping that this one may not ask for surgery but recommend wait and see. Of course, we are not sure which course of action is better. Anybody in the forum had similar experience, i.e. an undescenden testicle case acquired at later age? What should we expect now? Some information provided in internet pronounces risk of infertility, cancer etc. which are not comforting words for parents. :(

My son had the same thing. We found out when he was 4 at his well child exam. He did have surgery and it was very simple and easy :) He went in the morning and was playing and happy by the afternoon. He didn't really have any pain either. I think he had only 2 or three stitches and then they were secured by a little button. Not sure what that procedure is called. I hope this helps you :)

My son also had that problem. Our pediatrician said to give it time. It happened when he was about 2. His did drop back down about a year later.
Since your husband has it too, it might just be a genetic thing. Make sure the pediatrician knows that it appears to run in the family BEFORE going to the knife.
Probably the worst case scenario would be hernia surgery which is pretty common in little boys.

Both of my hubby's were undescended when he was born. The dr said they would drop in time - neither of his parents thought anything of it & never got it repaired. Now he's 33 yrs old & we have been through one cycle of IVF because his chances of having a child is less than 1%. Talk about devastating. Please make sure your child gets the help he needs so that he & his special someone when he's older aren't in our situation. Get 5 opinions & be his voice!
