Acting/Modeling Agencies

JRP is a scam. ANYONE who wants money is a scammer.

You should go through a local modeling agency, NO schools. Schools want you to take their classes and promise you leads while they take your money.

We have not been on the acting side of things but I have modeled most of my life. Any reputable agency that also submits talent prospects will not ask for money upfront.

Of course, you will have to pay some of your expenses but your daughter's expenses shoudl be covered at 100%.

It is a tough business... I hope your daughter has good self esteem. It can be very brutal, especially with rejection and some very catty people.

Good luck to her and please put all monies she earns in an account for her and if she does not like this, stop it. It is not a business for everyone.

John Robert Powers is all about profit. They get you in acting like they are interested but are mostly interested in your money.

Could you ask other people who are in the acting groups your daughter is involved in?

LOOK and Ford are good agencies in S.F. for modeling. Take some photos and your daughter to the agency and go from there. Don't give anyone any money. If they are interested and/or see anything that they like they will let you know and you won'y have to pay anything out of pocket.

I know of one. My son did work with them. They may of changed there name but now. But It's called take 2 talent. If you call info for them they will direct you to correct place. They are located in Fosolm they do a lot of work with l.a and san francisco. On saturday when a client comes in you would have to do a on screen test. It's not more than 5 mintues. Hope that helps.

We had gone through Take 2 Talent several years ago for our daughter. They were expensive, for their fees plus the professional pictures they require. (We also had to pay for Zed cards, but I don't think they use those anymore.)

Before my husband started working again, he took our daughter to see Models Inc in Concord. Apparently, it's run by a Mom who was tired of how children were being treated in the industry (but I never actually met anyone from there myself). The lady at Models Inc told us we didn't have to take professional pictures, which was really nice.

I would recommend contacting them directly; they're in the yellow pages!

It's best to go through a modeling and talent agency. No schools. From my experience, schools are a scam to get the most money out of you. I don't have experience working with those agencies that you mentioned. I was signed by Wilhelmina( sp?) Modeling agency in Orlando, Fl. I know they are a national and reputable agency to work for. I worked for them when I was 16-20 modeling. Mostly runway, and print work.

My advice is to research on-line all of the Modeling and Talent agencies. Find out when they have an open audition. Bring your daughter in for one, along with a 8x10 photo or composite card and listing of what experience she has in the field, as well as her measurements.

Take her to open auditions for commercials, t.v. shows, movies. Living in that area, I am sure you will be able to find plenty of auditions for her to go to. Any experience with that is a plus.

Do not pay that much for any class. It's a rip-off.

At auditions for modeling/talent agencies they may ask you to attend a class or two, or come back for a call back. Most times they do test shots at these call backs, and if they are interested will sign to work for them. Once she is signed, they will find her work in both modeling and acting.

It's best to have an agent if she wants to act or model. She will get exposure quicker, as well as gain experience.
