Address & Incorrect Info.

Somehow some unknown persons have been attached to my home address. We occasionally get mail for them, they show up online w/ our address. Does anyone know how to remove them? I'm guessing someone somewhere entered some mis-information & that is how this happened. I want them off! Thanks!

BTW, these people never lived at this address, are not previous owners, etc.

What can I do next?

The FIRST thing I would do would be to get my credit reports to make sure nothing fishy is going on. Secondly, check all of your credit card info to make sure someone is not stealing from you and you don't know it.

I get calls often from the fraud dept about our credit card and the bank as well because we wire money and they make sure all is on the up and up. This happens a lot because hubby travels and we both use the card. (PAID in FULL monthly) So it sends a red flag to fraud if he is in LA using a card and I am here in Dallas using a card. I LOVE the fact that they will call us. I reconcile my credit card and bank on a daily basis so I know exactly what is going on. We run our company from home and it is vital to stay on top of things

All that said because..........when they called me 2 yrs ago, I assumed it was the same old routine because we were not in TX at the time. After answering some questions, I knew it was not right. Some dummy managed to get our card number, create a card and was buying gas with a credit card with my name on it in CA! The same dummy enjoyed a shopping spree online. What the dummy did not do, was change the ship to address from the billing address.....,SO..I got this fantastic $200 coffee maker and coffee in the mail (we don't drink coffee), blank business cards from Vista print, and the dummy must have been overweight because I also got some high powered Rx diet pills and Acai cleanse.

Upon calling these companies, the coffee company appreciated me letting them know...They said I could keep the coffee maker. The Rx people wanted the Rx back but I told them I'd only send it when I saw a credit on my account and at their expense, not mine.

Now the same dummy, had to use an email address and WHA..LA I managed to get that from the coffee company!! I provided the email address to Cirtibank and they were quite happy. We did not have to pay for anything that was stolen.

Bottom line, don't just slough it off as an accidental thing. Check into it.

Good luck

For the mail that you receive at your house:
Write"Not at this address" on it.
Don't erase or mark over the address.
Put the mail back in your mailbox

For the address online, you could try contacting the website. Sometimes they have a 'not correct' button.

We have a neighbor who is going to college and provided OUR address for all of her college junk mail.

*** Edited to add...it is Spokeo.com. Look yourself up and it will list other people in your household. I have not contacted them but might be worth a shot to ask them to remove or ask them where the info came from so you can go to the source. Good luck!

My father in law and sister in law get mail here and I know where it comes from...there is an site online that is used for marketing that gives a whole bunch of personal info...companies buy addresses etc from them. When I go there and put in my info it tells me that my FIL and SIL both live at this address as well. I have no idea how they got that information though or how to fix it, so I continue to get info about diapers and fertility aimed at my SIL and prostate health and AARP aimed at my FIL. They have never lived here and both live in a different state (but my SIL did live with my FIL for a while while she was an adult). I don't know if maybe this is just connected cause of the relationship with my husband or what. I am trying to remember the name of the website.....if I do, I'll come back and send you the info. I wonder if you contacted them and let them know if they might remove it. I just shrug my shoulders and throw it away.

I have that problem with my phone number and address, but only for the last people with both. We have been the house for 6 years and still get mail for them. I write, "Does not live here" and return it. For the phone, 3 years with this number, and I am still getting Dr. reminders, school phone calls, etc. I just tell them that this is not their number anymore. Online, I have found the numbers attached and have contacted the phone company or clicked the contact us buttons to try to fix it. Still getting calls though!!

Um, my mother still gets mail for her father who dies 34 years ago. And she's moved maybe 7 times since then. So...I don't know what to tell you =)

If it's a catalog go online and send an email asking them to stop. For regular mail, scribble out the address and in very large print, write RTS addressee unknown. It may take a few months, but it should eventually stop or at least slow down a great deal.

As for removing them online, if possible go to the contact us section of the website and ask them to correct the information.
