Adenoidectomy ... Please Help!!!!

If it's that foul...don't call the doctor...take him TO the doctor. It may be infected. Didn't they give him an antibiotic after the operation to prevent an infection? Most doctors do. If he's not already on an antibiotic, take him there and refuse to leave without a script...it's common practice after something like that to have an antibiotic for about 10 days.

When my son had his tonsils & adenoids removed last year at age 8, I only expected the odor to last a week, but it lasted almost 2 weeks. It was so bad that you could smell it as soon as you walked into the room. I felt sorry for him when he returned to school because no matter how much I had him brush his teeth (which has nothing to do with the odor), his friends still noticed the smell.

it is a very foul smell i know my daughter had the same thing done and it lasted bout 2 weeks there is nothing you can do but deal with it i wish i could give you more advice but the only thing i can tell you is make sure he drinks alot of fluids i was told that will help the throat to heal and scab and thats when the smell ends good luck you will make it through. i hope him a fast recovery and very happy christmas

If you think it smells, he does too. You might try some Kids Mentholatum. Just put a bit in or just at the edge of his nose. It won't hurt him at all. They make a cherry chest rub that I use on my son every night before he goes to bed, and he loves it.

My daughter (2-1/2 years old) just had this same surgery on Nov. 14 (tubes in & adenoids out). Her breath is still a bit foul - but that is definately to be expected due to a few factors - drainage from the sinuses / middle ear (reasons behind the tubes being put in) and the "scabbing" / healing from the adenoids being removed. Just hang in there & brush his teeth, keep the fluids coming & put the eardrops in 2x a day, faithfully. Also - if your Dr. prescribed amoxicillin - finish it faithfully! My daughter is hearing so much better and enunciating her words SO MUCH BETTER now.

R., this is completely normal. My dd had tubes, tonsils and adnoids last Christmas. She did wonderful until day 8,9 and 10. She was miserable, so much that I took her to the ER. She was loosing her scabs and that was the foul smell, the dried blood and stitches. As long as it isnt bright red blood he should be fine. But if you really feel uncomfortable call the doctor.

i want you to know that the smell will go away. i have clinicals in the OR and i have seen that procedure done. they are removed with a bovie that is when they use high voltage to cut. this keeps it from bleeding. it will be OK and all i can say is keep your nose away from the smell Hehe. good luck. my son had tubes in his ears,and adanoids out at 56, and yess there was a fould smell, for a bout a week, until it healed...if the smell does not go away by like wednesday or thursday i would have the doctor tak alook in his nose...L.

Oh god that smell....
All I can is thank god I got the stomach flu - cause I was able to be left alone from that smell....

It is a very common thing - I talk to Mommy's whose children who have palate repair - and they say that is the smell of the mouth healing....

Hubby is a cop and a peice of advice from him - put vicks under your nose if he is in breathing range, that way you smell the vicks instead....you can do that with any strong lotion or scented oil...

I've never really heard of that but I would figure that that's prolly from any infection to be draining from his ears. I had my tonsils and adnoids removed when I was 5 or 6 and don't remember my mom saying anything bout it.....
