Does anyone out there have adenomyosis and if so what are you doing to cope with it. I recenly found out I have Adenomyosis and have been bleeding for a month now. My doctor has given me an IUD in the hopes that it will help to stop or slow down the bleeding, but the cramps are unbelivable. I just got the IUD last week and so far so good not much cramping and the bleeding is very light. I'm just worried it will not work and want to know if anyone else has the same problem and what has work for you.

What can I do next?

I too was just recently diagnosed with Adenomyosis. I had never heard of it before my doctor mentioned it. I have had a problem for 2 years-very heavy bleeding that has resulted in a few ER visits and a few D&C's. They've put me on multiple birth control pills, which the one time did help; another time they tried estrogen, which didn't work.
My infertility doctor has suggested the best course of treatment, due to the heaviness of my bleeding, is a hysterectomy. It is drastic, but I'd rather schedule it than end up there on an emergency basis. I do know that if you are done having children, there is also ablation (sp?). You do have my sympathy! I've been there for 2 years!

I had a IUD put in in March 2008 because of extremly heavy bleeding. I love it! My first two periods were a little crampy but now I don't cramp at all and I have very light bleeding. I am very happy with my decision to get an IUD.

Hello,

I was diagnosised with Adenomyosis a year ago this past May. I had an Endometrial Ablation a few years prior to receiving that diagnosis, but was still experiencing severe pain to the point my legs would go numb and begin to tingle. I would lose the feeling while driving which was very dangerous. I finally weighed my options; not for everyone, and had a bilateral hysterectomy. It will be a year this month. I have not had any problems since. I have two beautiful children so making the decision was easier for me. If you are comfortable with taking the pain medication regularly and the assistance of the IUD may help alleviate some of the pain. But speak in depth with your doctor about other options as well.

I just got diagnosed. I was taking depo-provera shot. I got off the shot and noticed a lot of pain for about 5 month after I started the nuva ring at the same time. Well when the depo completley wore off I went to doc and found out it was Adenomyosis. the ring seems to help me. I still feel uncomfortable at times though. I been still reading up on it though I am so confused because some articles say its from taking the Birth control and some say its from child-birth. SO I dont know what to think. I dont think anyone really knows. Dr. Micheal toaff seems to have a great remedy. another thing is Yes its upsetting.

Hi Marlene,

I too suffer from adenomyosis and my heart goes out to you. It can be very painful and uncomfortable with all the bleeding and cramping. I tried accupuncture and there is a good website- althysterectomy.org -that gives alternatives to hysterectomy.
As far as coping with the pain,I usually have to take Vicodin. I am 7 months pregnant and I am not looking forward to getting my period again once these babies are out of me!

Good luck.
