Hey guys, well Necco had his surgery Fri. to get tubes in his ears and his adnoids removed,he seems to be doing good, but my question is he sounds really congested when he breaths and his nose is runny(for the 1st time!) I know its drainage but how long will this go on? They have him on Lortab every 12 hours and it makes him WILD! I was hoping the surgery would help him start sleeping better but so far no luck...Thanks

What can I do next?

My son had his tonsils and adenoids removed at 14 months. He stayed on tylenol w/ codeine for a week - it was very painful for him. I think the congestion and runny nose are just where the adenoids were blocking everything and now it can finally come out! I would give it another couple of days to see if it clears up on it's own.

It took my son about 10-14 days before I finally saw improvements in his breathing and sleeping. It takes time for the swelling to go down. However, it you feel like something isn't right - it never hurts to make a quick call to the doctor's office.

My son had his tonsils and adenoids removed when he was two. There were so large they were blocking his airways. Anyway, he had one rough day in the hospital but after that he was fine. I think they gave him some Tylenol with codeine. I'm surprised that your son has been put on Loritab. I wouldn't think that he would need something that strong. My son started sleeping better almost immediately, but his were taken out because of the enlargement, not because he was sick with them. My son didn't have much drainage either. I would just watch him closely for a couple more days and if it shows no sign of improvement, call the doctor.

Well, I don't know about adnoids removed. But when I had surgery on my sinuses it took a good week and a half till I was back to normal. I didn't look normal, looked like I was in a boxing match lol. But I felt a whole lot better. I understand about the adverse affect with the Loritab, but in some way or another he needs to get some rest. That is what will help him to recover. With out the rest recovery will take longer. I know I'm not a doctor or anything of the sort, just remember the way it was for me. Good luck and I wish him well in recovery and you some peace : )

My son had his adenoids removed and tubes put in at 4. He was on pain meds for maybe a day and a half. If Necco is not hurting, he does not need the Lortab. If he's hurting a little bit but the Lortab is making him wild, give him tylenol. No Aspirin or Motrin but you can give him plain tylenol. The drainage will continue for several days, more than likely he had stuff blocked up there above his adenoids that has to drain out. If he is still having these issues when he goes for his recheck express your concerns to the doctor.

I'm really suprised they gave him something for pain, they don't usually. The drainage shouldn't go on for too long and if it persists for longer than a week, you should call your doctor.
