I'm sticking with Tracy K.'s answer. Great!!! Great!!! Great!!! Or try a combination of Tracy K and Wendy E. and try to have fun.
My husband is going to his brother's house for a huge annual party this weekend. It is his brother's favorite holiday and they spare no expense to have a fantastic party. This year the theme is ghouls versus zoombies. They even have suggested what group of people wear what costume but ultimately they don't care as long as you show up in a costume. There will be some type of hunt with the costumes. They take it seriously.
My husband is not a huge fan of halloween and doesn't even want to go but feels obligated. Last year we dressed up in a fun costume but my husband does not have any ideas this year. Last night we were watching the office and Jim wore a hello my name is Dave sticker. That was his costume. Yes, it was funny but my husband wants to do that for his costume.
I think it would be rude to show up with that as they really go all out and it would be the easy way out. He thinks it is a funny idea. What are your thoughts?
EDIT: I will not be going this year :(
After all of your feedback we will be going to goodwill tomorrow for some clothes. Thanks for helping me convince him!

he could dress up as a zombie with the name sticker on. you could get an old jacket from goodwill and rip up the sleeves and just slap on some grayish make-up and there ya go!
What if he changed it to "Hello, my name is Dick" and you go as "Jane"... the antiquated "basal reader" characters from the 70's. Look them up and go as "ghoulish" versions... for those in education they'll get it and think it's hilarious b/c that series has long since been buried never to be seen again!
If he really wants to do the "Dave" thing, let him do it and you can go over the top. His brother probably knows how he feels and won't be shocked by his lack of participation. He's there and that's what matters.
I think he should dress up, even if it is something simple. I think just the nametag thing is undermining his brothers efforts.
I like the idea of incorporating his idea into the framework provided for the party. He can be Dead Dave or What Dave would be if he dressed up on the Office. Dave the Ghoul works. A little white powdery makeup with black around his eyes. A tattered jacket. You could be one of the chicks from the office so yall can be a matched set.
i think it would be rude, yes, maybe he could do a variation of it, a little ghoulish makeup, nothing too time tasking, and a name tag of a famous dead person, "hello my name is elvis"...."george washington" (powdered wig, lol) They sound like a fun party throwing couple.
Dont lame it up with a not costume 'costume", its insulting, might as well not even go.
I've only seen the show a few times (Like it just don't watch a lot of TV) but here's my 2 cents. If there is something that can make hime even more like Dave (specific Dress, Hair, Glasses.......) I say it could be funny. If not it may not come off very well and be as funny to others.
It's a little late but maybe for next year...A friend of my sisters had a Madonna Party. Everyone had to dress as Madonnna throughout the years. It seemed all the men chose the outrageous cone bra phase, my Sister dressed up as her from a "League of their own" and I guess there were 80s Madonna's, Marilyn Monroe Madonna's......
My husband is thinking of wearing our son's Thomas the Train costume, it actually fits! Party City $30

Seeing how it's his brother's party, I am inclined to think that he can get away with whatever he chooses to wear!
I see your point, that it should be nice if him to get into the action of really dressing up, seeing how they go all out for Halloween...but if he doesn't want to, then it is his right to dress as he feels comfortable?!
~I wish hubby and I were attending an adult Halloween part this year...hubby has the best "phantom" from phantom of the opera costume that makes me go crazy...so sexy, damn I love that costume...the cape, the gloves, the mask...wowza!
I have to tell you...we just had a Halloween party over the past weekend, and I had told everyone they had to wear a costume. They all did, and it was really cool. Some of the guys surprised me with really funny and great costumes when I know they didn't want to dress up. Everyone had a blast though. It was really nice to see everyone participate. It wouldn't have ruined the party if someone didn't dress up, but I for sure would have given them ____@____.com for it and teased them about being a party pooper! LOL
My girlfriend also does a HUGE halloween party every year. I don't usually go, it's not my thing, but this year she dressed up as Mimi (from the Drew Carey show). I thought it was hilarious. So, maybe you could dress up as her, and he could dress up as her boss (I don't remember his name, he had some kind of accent). That way he just has to dress up in a suit.
Also, don't know if your hubby is a "big" guy or not, but when I went to my friends house I wore a t-shirt that said "I beat anorexia" (I am a big girl).
I think if he makes any kind of effort to dress up that that's better than nothing!!

If he's comfortable going like that I wouldnt squelch it. He's the one wearing the costume. Zombie Dave would be more fitting tho.
I think it's a funny idea. But a little white on his face and a few vlood spatters would be a nice upgrade!
you know, Walmart has tshirts which say: "I don't do costumes" "this is my costume" etc.
Combine a tacky tshirt with face paint & your husband is done!
I am with your husband ~ I hate dressing up!
But.....if I do choose to attend a Halloween (dress up) Party. I dress up.
But.....a costume (no matter how intricate or how simple) is a costume.
If he chooses to go then he needs to wear a costume of some sort, even if it is simple.
