Advice on a Child Who Takes Her Diaper Off

A little girl I used to babysit for did the same thing at naptime. She was also around 18 months. I took some old footie pajamas and cut the feet off and put them on her backwards. Worked like a charm. Just an FYI and to give you some hope - She started potty training fairly soon after and was potty trained very quickly.

she knows her diaper is dirty and wants it off, I'd try potty training. Sounds to me like she is ready, the funner you make it the easier it can be. but most of all be consistant! regardless if her "reward" is a song, dance, toy or food. also I remember going to the bathroom every time my mom,dad or grandmother went(which ever one had me at the time) and to this day if my mom tells me to pee before we leave I can, LOL

Put her diaper on backwards and then put a oneise on her...this worked for my little girl.

I don't think I would try potty training just yet. I mean, it's very very young and may take a lot longer than it could if you waited until a later time.

Try putting her in something that she can't take her diaper off while wearing. They make little leotards, or put her in onesies, footed pajamas, something like that. You'd only have to do it while she's sleeping, the rest of the time you would be around her and could catch her.

I think it's time to start potty training!

R., I think she is telling you she is sick of the diapers, and is ready start potty training. I really dont believe that there is a magic age when you should start potty training, I think that your child will let you know when he/she is ready, and this is a good sign that she is ready. Make it a big deal about her wearing big girl pantys. Let her pick them out, and let her know when she is no longer having accidents in her training pants then she can wear her big girl pantys. Thats what I always did. My oldest was potty trained completly by the age of 13 months. It all depends on the child. Boys are usually slower to want to be potty trained, but girls are much quicker. I am going through this right now with my 2 year old little boy!! He has been doing this during nap times at home. No matter what type of pants he has on he takes them off, then his diaper & either has already pooped in his diaper or poops in his bed after he removes everything. I have started putting him in zip up pjs in hopes that he keeps this on. If this doesn't do the trick then I am going to tape around the waist of his pants to keep them on. I don't know what else to do!! Oh the things our kids put us through!! haha Good Luck!!

Hi R.- A babysitter I once had used masking tape over the tabs and partly around the waist. It worked for me. I also had good luck with putting the diaper on backwards. As for potty training, every child is ready at a different age - give it a try

My daughter does this all the time, not just at bed/nap time. We are slowly potty training her because we have a new baby and I don't have the time or energy to focus on training her like I should. There is a book called Potty Train in Three Days or something like that. A friend of mine used it with her two boys. I think the basis of the technique is that you wake them up in the morning and start taking them to the bathroom from that point on every 30-45 minutes for three days. As the days go on, you lengthen the time between potty breaks. This sounds a little tedious to me, but hey, if you have the time, go for it. :) In any case, I think it's a good idea to start introducing her to the potty.

My daughter does the same thing. She is now 2 but has been doing it for about 6 months. It is not necessarily to early to potty train depending on your child. I know my daughter is not ready yet. I suggest always keep clothes on her that she cannot get her diaper off in. That is what I do and I have no problems. Many times I went to get her out of her crib to find a bed covered in poo and diaper on the floor. Good Luck!

wewent through this with myson when he was 2, i just started putting him in overalls & set an egg timer to go off every 15min, then took him to the bathroom and set him on the toilet, if he went he got 2 mini m&m's, if he didn't go, then i praised him for trying..after a couple days, he started telling me when he had to go, of course i only had a matter of minutes before there was nuclear holicost, but as least he told me instead of painting the room with it.

Only you know if she is ready to start potty training or not. You will probably not start her out with panties while she is sleeping anyway, and it sounds like this is when she is taking the diaper off! But if you want to try potty training while she is awake, then go for it! Just because you try does not mean you have to stick with it if she does not respond.

Unless you plan on putting a potty chair in her crib, try duct tape on the diaper while she naps or overnight (it works better than masking tape!) We tried the diper on backwards too, but after a few days, our oldest daughter was able to reach around and pull the tabs anyway.

Sometimes too, it has nothing to do with the soild diaper, some kids just like to be naked. Just be ready for her temper, if she has one, because it may come out big time!

I have a 16 month old and she is alway taking her diaper off and her clothes. It does not matter what outfit I have her in. Bib-overalls. onzies. jeans ect. She is always trying to run around naked. I know that I bought a potty chair way way early she was only 13ish months old. She would kinda play with it sit on it with a diaper on. Even all of her clothes on at that time. Now she goes to the potty everytime I go to the restroom. She has potty in her potty about 10 times in the past 3 days!!!!!! I AM SO PROUD OF HER!! She waits for me to clean her up and then she stands up and claps her hands and does a little dance in the bathroom. I love to see her so happy!! Do we push this on her NO because I understand that she is still young and she might just be mocking what mommy does. But I praise her in it even if she tries!!!!

I think that it is never to early to introduce the potty chair to a child. Good luck with it!!

Maybe you should try to get one of those sing along toilets. My daughter has one and she loves it. That could make it fun for her to learn to go potty.

I have 3 boys so I'm not sure if there is a difference, but it has been my experience with the three of them, that every child is different. I had one potty trained by the time he was 11 mon. old, another at 2 yrs, and the other is now 4 but he still has to wear pull ups to bed at night. If your daughter is telling you that she has a dirty diaper and she realizes it, than I say start training. It is never too early. The biggest part is getting them to realize it and it appears she is already at that point, so I say, get her some panties, NOT pull ups, because you want her to be able to feel the wetness, and just start taking her everytime you go, after all meals, after she drinks, every chance you get. Have you noticed a specific time of day when she seems to poop? If so, than make sure you take her in the bathroom around that time, and sit and read a book, or whatever you may have to do until she goes in the big potty. I am a single mother, and I work full time. I therefore did not have a lot of time to work on it, but what little time I did, did seem to pay off. it's not to soon to potty train there is no such thing if a child is ready and can communicate the need to go to you, as for the immediate problem, keep her clothed at all times and try using the undershirts that snap under her diaper to keep her from taking them off, or just change to pullups of the pampers that slide on rather than have the tabs, it might make it hard enough for her that she stops taking them off. good luck
