Advice on Treatment of Keloid Scar from Cesarean

Apparently I have a keloid scar from my first c-sec. I'm going in for c-sec #2 in a few months and figure the next one is bound to be just as bad or worse. I just found out what this was today at my doc appt. I guess some people are just genetically prone to getting them, while the majority of people's scars just heal and go away over time. If you have/had one - if you have any advice on treatments please send - would like to have a plan going into #2 because I think it will our last kiddo! Thank you!

THIOSINAMINUM (Rodallin) you can do oral homeopathic THIOSINAMINUM 6X 3 times a day. or find an ND who will administer it under the skin.
Good luck

Ask your doctor to inject Kenalog into the scar during the C-section. It worked wonders for me. It is a steroid that prevents the scar from thickening.

Hi N.,

I Keloid too. I had abdominal surgery at 19 and got a bikini cut scar that keloided. Many years later I had 2 C-sections. I have railroad tracks because the doctors said they couldn't go through the first scar. My C-section scars healed without keloids. I also had surgery on my elbow years ago. Half of the scar keloided. After 6 months the doctor injected steroids into it. The keloid part is wider than the non-keloid part but its all flat and the same color. I have pierced ears (8 holes). The first pair keloided and I got steriod injections, both ears, front and back. All the other piercings are fine. I have a couple of scratches that keloided and look like I had stitches.

All this to say you may not keloid at all or just partially. It seems steriods are your best bet to repair the damage if the doctor doesn't fix it during your C-section. Good luck with this.

I don't know about C-sections, but last year my son got 17 stitches on his forhead (running and a wet Multipurpose Room floor don't mix). My friend is a masseuse and she suggested that I rub in small, gentle circles both into the scar and away from the scar. It has helped the scar tissue "break down" slowly and the scar has become less noticable as it healed. Congratulations on your new baby!

Hi N.,
I had a horrible scar from c-section #1! It was SO bad that my new OB said as she was cutting through it that she was going to remove it and give me a nicer cleaner looking one! It does look so much better. Ask your OB if he/she can do that for you too!! Good luck!

Hi N.,

I actually Keloid also, I have been cut 3x's, because u keloid they may not start your incision in the same place. I keept it moist with CoCo Butter and vitianm E, I realize when it was healing it would itch so I kept it on it. No one could see it but me so I was OK with that but it doesn't go away or go down. I also looked into getting it lasered and was told that it could come back. So I just love my double protection. That is what I call it. :) I hope this helps

A friend of mine is a Physical Therapist who has had 2 C's and I had one last year. She recommended that I rub the stitched area when it was healing internally, I think so that differing layers did not connect to each other and to break down the scar tissue. I followed her advice, after the outside looked healed (about a week). It was uncomfortable to rub, and seemed to agitate a little, but I have had no scarring discomfort since my body healed from the operation almost a year ago.

I scar the same way and have had several skin cancer spots, so I have a ton of them. What the docs do now that they know I form keloids is they inject the sucture spot w/a small steroid as they are putting the stiches in. It prevents the keloid from forming. SO tell the surgeon that you get keloids and they'll know what to do.

Hi N.,

My sister and I both have a keloid scar from C-sections. With my sister, I think her Dr. removed the scar tissue from her 1st C-section and made it look nicer when she was having her 2nd C-section. The Dr. also stitched up her 2nd C-section incision differently, so as not to develop a keloid scar.

Knowing that I'm genetically prone to keloid scars, I told my OB. She didn't know how to do the stitches, so she injected the incision site with a steroid at the time of my C-section to prevent a keloid scar. I still developed one anyway. My Dr. said I could get another steroid injection in the scar to get rid of the keloid scar. Your OB or a dermatologist can do the injection.

Hope this is helpful.

I have the same problem with my skin. Asians and African Americans are more prone to having keloids after a deep cut or surgical procedures. Ask your OB about injecting you with kenalog after the c/section this does not make the keloid disappear altogether, but significantly reduces it so it isn't too noticeable. You won't feel the injection since he/she would be doing it while you're numb. Ob's can and will do it if you ask them and express to them how concerned you are about the keloid. They can also do it post-op as a follow up but they do it twice, usually. On the C/s day and later on in the office. But inquire with your ob now. Hope this helps. Congrats on your second baby!

When I have my second c/s the doctor removed the scar and used staples instead of stitches. The scar isn't nearly as bad this time and seems to be improving with time. I cannot remember for the life of me if they did the injection or not - I think they did.

A few things.

1. NAET.com for allergy eliminations.

2. Naturopathic doctor/herbalist.

3. Accupuncture

4. It could also be an energy field problem, which is very normal in the world. That would be a satellite issue.

I would try everything natural and worry about the satellite energy field later.

Be well.

I've had 3 C-sections. The first one I developed a keloid. Asians are susceptible to keloids, but I also didn't rest and started exercising (doing sit ups) at 5 weeks, instead of waiting after 6 week plus. My baby was also very big and heavy (9lbs 6oz). My doctor scolded me for being too impatient. SHe removed the keloid at the start of my 2nd c-section and I promised to listen to orders this time. (my 2nd was breeched and was born 2 weeks earlier at 8lbs 10 oz) This time I rested the entire 6 weeks, started walking and didn't start doing sit ups until 8 weeks. My scar turned out to be a beautiful line. My 3rd c-section a new doctor removed my sterile strips at 6 weeks, before it was ready to come off by its self. Now my line is crooked, but still thin without keloid because I rested as ordered. Massaging the scar after the sterile strips fall off would help too. good luck

Hi! I had a large keloid scar from my first c-section, and my doctor was able to make my second one smaller by injecting something into the scar right after he stapled me up the second time. I still have a keloid, but it is much smaller. Ask your doctor.
