My son was 8 months for trick or treating and I just sat him near the front door in his costume and so people would see him when he came to the door. The next year i took him around the neighborhood.
Since this is my daughter's first Halloween, I am really excited :) I bought her a little costume, but my question is, what do I do with her since she is only 7 months old? lol. I really would like to hear from other moms who have, or have had, a young child and how they handled trick or treating. Is it silly to take her around a neighborhood? Or should I try to find a place that offers something for young kids? If so, does anyone know a place that is offering something like this? I was hoping maybe Easton or something, but I can't seem to find any info. Any suggestions, and advice would be appreciated! Thanks

I agree - trying to take her around the whole neighborhood will just be exhasting especially since you'll really just be thrusting a child forward and saying trick or treat. You could try your local community center to see what they have planned for Halloween, I know the Worthington Community Center has something in their parking lot every year. Also, if you like trains, the Ohio Railway Museum in Worthington is having Halloween rides the last couple weekends this month and there is Boo at the Zoo, All Hallow's Eve event @ Ohio Village http://www.ohiohistory.org/about/pr/18063206275/print.html, and Haunted Hallow @ Olentangy Indian Caverns (which is very close to the zoo). Oh and @ Easton they are having the Halloween Pet Parade.

My kids were 11m old for thier first halloween and we just took them to a few close neighbors (4 to be exact). They didn't know what they were doing but it was sure cute getting them dressed up. I would try to tak eher around a whole neighborhood--might just wear her out.
As far as things to do, there is Boo at the Zoo on Fri nites, and all day Saturday and Sunday for the next 2 weekends (20-22 and 27-29). Also check with your township, I know ours (Genoa) is having something the night of halloween by the fire station.
Hope this helps,

I agree with the first 4 moms who responded; those are all great ideas and I've taken my kids to Boo at the Zoo and the Ohio Railway Museum train ride. My oldest son was 9 months old for his 1st Halloween, so I just took him to the neighbors' houses who we spoke to regularly. They offered us candy, but, knowing he couldn't eat it, I thanked them and told them I didn't need it since I'd end up eating it :-) I then spent the rest of the evening at home, greeting the kids at the door while he still got to wear his costume. The older kids especially enjoyed seeing him in it and made over him. Have fun and I hope you enjoy her first Halloween; it may sound stereotypical, but time really does go fast with your kids and she'll be in school before you know it!
My daughter was 5 months old on her 1st Halloween and I took her around a neighborhood for like maybe an hour so everybody could see her in the costume we had fun! There are some places that you can take her too here's the web sites there's a link to halloween parties at parks (I think that's where they are). They tell what ages, location, and phone number so check that out to see if anything is close to you.

Specifically, There is a pet parade at Easton and trick-or-treating at North Market. Their descriptions, times, and dates are near the bottom of the page under "Halloween Events"
I hope that you have a good time!!
When my kids were that little I would take them to the neighbors that we knew. They loved to see them in their costume. We didn't take them all over the neighborhood, because they couldn't eat the candy and really didn't want to be in their costume for that long. In Dublin, the rec center is doing something for kids on the 19th.
